We Remember
ROBERTS, Margaret Anne
June 16, 1933 — November 21, 2018
Marg Roberts, mother, grandmother, friend and family matriarch passed away on November 21st in Kelowna at the proud age of 85. Born to parents Alice (d. 2012) and Joseph Dory (d. 1950) in Edmonton, Alberta, she is survived by children Michael Roberts (Ellen), Cathy Parmenter, and Patrick Roberts (Lisa) as well as seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Growing up in Edmonton, Marg married Donn Roberts on November 19, 1951, where they lived until buying a large farm in Stony Plain, Alberta in 1962. Their lives in Alberta included many close friends, Eskimo football season tickets, and the birth of all three of their children. In July 1967 the young family moved to the Okanagan where Marg and her mother co-owned the Table Supply Grocery in Rutland. She also volunteered many hours with the Rutland Swim Club, local schools and her children’s other activities. A proud member of the local community, she went on to become the Executive Assistant to the 7th Bishop of Kootenay and later the 8th Bishop of Kootenay at Cathedral Church of St. Michael & All Angels in Kelowna. Throughout her life, Marg was a lover of horses and everything equestrian. Her aunt and uncle managed Spruce Meadows equestrian centre in Calgary, strengthening her love of horses. She rode her first horse as a young child and owned several over the years. That love of riding was passed along especially to her daughter and several of the grandchildren. Marg was also a wonderful cook, happy to host both family and neighborhood friends of all ages. She welcomed everyone to her home and was happy to share proud stories of her family, past and present. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank the many neighbors and family friends who supported Marg so kindly in recent years. Special thanks to the staff of Kelowna General Hospital ICU-B for their care and attention of our mother through to her final day.
A celebration of life reception for all who knew Marg will be hosted by the family on Sunday, December 9th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. I am so very sad to read of your Moms passing. There are so many fond memories, especially spending Saturday mornings in the back of the store watching cartoons in between early morning and noon swim club practices. On behalf of the Husch family, our deepest sympathies to you all, Mike, Cathy, Patrick and your families.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your Mom and Grandmother.
