GROSSO, Rick
July 28, 1963 — September 13, 2019
Rick passed away peacefully at the age of 56 in the Kelowna General Hospital on September 13, 2019. Very much feeling his loss are his three children Dorell Shovar, Martina Shovar, and Justin Grosso; his grandchildren Aubrey, Fox, Ava; and Martina’s Fiancé, Ava’s father, Dino, the “Coach” and player of many ball teams that Rick did scorekeeping and cheering for. Rick is also missed by his parents Charlie Grosso of Williams Lake, BC and Dolores Sheldon of Lumby, BC; his siblings, Garry Grosso of Vernon, BC and Lori Grosso of Kelowna, BC; his nephew Lynden Grosso of Kelowna BC; his nieces Becky Grosso Richardson of Williams Lake BC and Morgan Grosso Friesen of Vancouver, BC; Uncle Keith Sheldon of Florida, U.S.A.; his cousins Candice Sheldon of Ontario and Trent Sheldon of Ontario. We are grateful to Michelle Homen for being Rick’s “special lady”, touching his life with TRUE LOVE. They were both born on July 28th, true Leo’s.
Rick graduated as Class Valedictorian in 1981 at Columneetza Senior Secondary school, Williams Lake, BC He chose to complete his 5th class Power Engineering in 2004, which enabled him to make and maintain superior ice conditions with his Refrigeration Ticket.
Rick left a legacy in playing and coaching hockey. He played Junior A hockey and refereed minor hockey as well as other leagues in his capacity. He worked, played, and ran arenas in Williams Lake BC, Sparwood, BC, 100 Mile House, BC, Vanderhoof, BC, Nelson, BC, Fernie BC, and Kelowna, BC. He was also fondly known as a “Rink Rat”. This time was considered his “ZAMBONI DAYS” and were some of the best days of his life! Rick’s sports life also included Baseball in Invermere, BC.
He will be sadly missed by all the family, friends, and sports associations he touched with his positive attitude. He enriched his community with a caring personality.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 4, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Evangel Church, in the Fellowship Room, 3261 Gordon Dr, Kelowna, BC, at 2:00 pm. Cards or flowers would warm Rick’s heart. I remember the endearing message that Rick shared with me during one of his hospital stays. He was sharing about Lori and how proud he was of her. What really touched me though, was the depth of love that was in his words and in his eyes. as he spoke about her. Being with him, was a gift to me also.
I am very sorry for your Loss, I played men’s fastball with Rick when I moved to Williams Lake in 1990. He left a lasting impression with me he was an awesome guy and a great Ball player. Condolences to his Family and friends.
Dear Dolores and Lori and all of your family. I’m so sad and sorry for your loss. Rick was such a friendly happy charming soul that always put a smile on my face when I saw him. So sad to have to leave this world when he had just found his true love. Though we only met occasionally, I will fondly remember Rick. My prayers are with you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am lift you up in prayer, I know first had what it is like to lose a husband, mine was only 54. My heart aches for your sister in-law Lori, Your brother Rick sounds like an awesome man. I pray you find some joy as you prepare to celebrate his life, the shared memories and the searching of photos to share is healing.

Frank, Abigail and myself send our deepest sympathies to Ricks family. I am sorry not to be with you at this time to pay my respects in person and tell you in person how much I loved that warm smile and hug of his. He has been so kind to our family always visiting with us and I will miss him so very much. On Friday we will have a lovely meal and a toast to honour his memory as a family. To the Grosso family. I was heartbroken to hear of Rick’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Just found out about Rick. When I was one of the owners of the OIC (the 3 on 3 rink in West Kelowna), Rick worked with us. He was a fantastic guy who knew more about “ice” then anyone I met. He was not only reliable but just a great guy to have around in general. I was really sad to hear the news of his passing but feel truly happy and fortunate to have had the pleasure to know him. Rest in peace Rick – you will be missed.
