We Remember
DAY, Joan Louise (née Orr)
April 12, 1939 — May 2, 2020
It is with overwhelming sadness that we, Joan’s family, announce the passing of our beloved mother. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Joan moved with her family to Calgary, Alberta in 1954. She married the love of her life, Terry Wilson Day, in Calgary on July 13, 1964, and they raised three children. Their journey through life brought them to Westbank, British Columbia in 1980 where they happily settled with their young family. Her children Blaine Day, Dana Day (Stefan Küter), Laurie (John) Schwaiger, and grandchild Cole Schwaiger survive her. Her husband Terry predeceased her in 2009.
Joan’s life and that of her family was pleasurably enhanced by camping every summer with friends and family in British Columbia and around the Okanagan Valley. The proximity to Okanagan Lake provided countless hours of family adventures of exploratory boating and fishing.
Joan specifically requested that there be no service on her passing. A private family gathering will be held in the near future.

I am so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. I worked with Joan at Canada Life for many years. She was a great manager and friend. Thinking of you at this difficult time.

I was very saddened to hear of Joan’s passing. We spent many pleasurable hours together painting in Peachland at both the 50+ Center and the community centre. She was a kind and gentle soul with a bubbly laugh. She loved to paint and she had talent and class. We will miss her greatly.
I was shocked and saddened to hear this news. I had the great fortune of painting with Joan at Westwood. She was always so cheerful and often talked about her family. She will be greatly missed. Sending thoughts of deepest sympathy.
I remember this beautiful lady when I was working with her in Westbank at Royal LePage. She had a heart of gold. I. So sorry to the family.
Saddened to read of Joan’s passing. She was a lovely lady, always smiling and happy and cheerful to be with while painting in Peachland. She was a really good painter and was always so encouraging of others work. Her warm and sincere presents will be missed very much. My deepest sympathies to the family.
I met Joan at our Passion4Art Group and was immediately drawn to her. She represented such gentleness and caring. It was amazing to watch how she became such an accomplished artist. I particularly liked her “Lady in Paris”! My sincere condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed.🙏 SusanD
Dear Laurie, Dana, and Blaine; Losing our mother is perhaps one of the most painful events we must endure. ., the loss remains, as does the memory of the great love she shared. Memories of your visits to Strathmore will remain….fun moments in my life.
With deep affection, Fran

Very sorry to hear of the loss of my very first friend and next door neighbor from around 1944! We have always remained in contact and she was a very good friend. My condolences to all her precious children. May she rest in peace. She will be forever missed!
I am so sorry to find out that Joan has passed away. She was such a nice person, my sister and I
used to visit her whenever I was in Kelowna. I got to know her through her brother Jim Orr, and they were distant relatives that I got to meet in that last few years.
My sincere condolences to her family, she used to talk a lot about her daughter who raised husky dogs, and although I never met her it was in my plans for last summer until this covid thing happened. We will really miss those visits.
