We Remember
HASEBE, Joe
August 9, 1944 — February 12, 2021
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved uncle and brother Joe Hasebe who passed away on February 12, 2021, during a brief stay at Kelowna General Hospital after a fall a few weeks earlier. Joe was born in Kaslo, BC on August 9, 1944, and lived his entire life in Midway where he worked at the Pope and Talbot Sawmill for over 30 years. Joe was known for his extensive Christmas light displays he would put on the for the neighbourhood every year until declining health. He had a great love of sports. He curled for many years at the Midway and Grand Forks Curling Clubs, and he was a fixture at local softball tournaments and hockey games enthusiastically cheering on family and friends. He was easy going; a kind and generous soul who would help anybody who needed it. Joe was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
Joe was predeceased by his father Aizo (1959), his nephew Keith (1993), his mother Miyuki (1994), his sister Miyo (2011) and his brother Husso (2018).
He is survived by his sister Yuko, his brother Hiro (Kaz) and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no service. Koden gratefully declined. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos, or share a memory please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences”.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family in the loss of Joe. His sister Yuko took such good care of Joe over the years. God bless.
So sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. So many memories from so many years as his neighbour.
I was very sad to see in the Vancouver Sun today that Joe had passed away. He will be missed so much by all who knew him–he was a great community supporter. He was always a great athlete and you could always expect to see Joe at any sporting event that was happening, whether as a participant or a spectator. I know that my Mom always looked forward to seeing his Christmas light show every year. I enjoyed seeing him every year at the RC Fall Fair, His smile and greeting will always be remembered.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care

I want to pass on my deepest, most heartfelt sympathies to the family. I knew Joe from the time I was a young toddler. Loved watching him play ball and as I grew older, I had the good fortune to play fastball with Joe. He was truly one of the nicest people I ever knew and his smile always made me feel good. Always a big hello, how are you doing. He cared. I loved seeing him at the local rink and looked on in awe at his Christmas light displays. We lost a great guy, but if you knew Joe, you will always remember him. Rest In Peace my friend.
Hearing Joe’s passing, I wish to extend my feeling of sympathy to Yuko, Hiro and extended relatives.
