We Remember
HALL, Valerie Vera
—
1931 – 2021
In Loving Memory of Valerie Hall who passed away at the age of 90 in Kelowna, BC on May 5, 2021. She had 11 brothers and sisters, one of them being her twin brother, Val; both born on Valentine’s Day.
Valerie grew up in the Grimshaw/Peace River district of Alberta. She left home at an early age, and she earned her nursing degree and became a psychiatric nurse at Ponoka, AB. Later, she married and was the camp cook on a gold barge, with her husband Alan, and they lived in Lillooet, BC.
After following her husband to Vancouver, BC, where Alan became a barber for over 20 years, she had two children, Brenda and Roger. They lived in a small house, raised animals, and gardened for food until 1966 when they all moved to Richmond, BC. Alan became a real estate agent and Valerie followed suit as soon as the children were old enough to care for themselves. Roger and Brenda gave them 4 grandchildren, James “Jim”, Jennifer, Michael, and Lindsay, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Valerie was a wonderful, loving, and caring wife and mother, she will be greatly missed.

In loving memory of our Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Valerie (nee Blakley) Hall was born Valentine’s Day 1931 along with her twin brother Val, at her parents home in Northern Alberta. Valerie grew up on her parent’s farm with her 10 brothers and sisters in Grimshaw Alberta. Seeking new experiences Valerie attended Nursing school in Calgary, Alberta becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at the Ponoka Hospital for the Mentally Infirm for a number of years, then decided to go West to Vancouver. Valerie met her husband to be, Alan Hall, married and started a family living in Surrey BC and then in Richmond BC before retiring in Kelowna, BC to be closer to their Grandkids. Valerie loved flowers, dogs, horses and the colour red; however her real passion was baking and cooking for her family. Homemade bread, canning, pies and large dinners abounded from her kitchen. One was never allowed to leave her house hungry. She insisted that you have not 1 but 2 pieces of pie and boxes of goodies to take home. Since being diagnosed in 2013, Valerie fought a very hard and difficult battle with Alzheimers dementia. This horrible disease robbed her of her ability to remember the ones who truly loved her as well as her precious memories of a life well lived. Valerie will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her. In the numerous messages and notes I received the common thread was that of Valerie’s infectious laugh that made people want to laugh with her. Rest In Peace Mom. Love you!!
Valerie was predeceased by her husband, Alan Hall in 2011. She is survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother, and by her children, Brenda Pack (David), Roger, her Grandchildren, Jim (Monica), Jennifer, Michael (Phoenix), Lindsay (Ryan) and her Great Grandchildren Matthew and Jason.
Very sorry for your loss Brenda & Dave
I am very sorry for your loss and wish your family strength during this difficult time.
