We Remember
WILSON, June Patricia (née Dalley)
—
June 12, 1930 – June 3, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of June Patricia Wilson on June 3, 2021. June passed away at Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 90.
June Dalley was born on June 12, 1930, in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. Her father, Harold Dalley, worked on the railroad, and they moved several times around Alberta and Saskatchewan before settling in Kelowna in 1940. June attended school in Kelowna and at the age of 18 started working at Waldron’s Grocery store, where she met Ted Wilson. In June 1951 they were engaged to be married! Shortly after that, June moved to California with her parents, while Ted was stationed in Claresholm, AB. In the winter of 1951/52 Ted hitched-hiked all the way to California to make sure he didn’t lose June. June’s parents brought her back to Kelowna in 1952, and June and Ted were married on July 1, 1952. As Ted was stationed in the Royal Canadian Air Force, June and family moved 17 times in 21 years! Including 4 years in Germany during the Cold War. They eventually returned to Kelowna in 1969, where they purchased 24 acres in Ellison that they have been farming ever since! June and Ted were happily married for 68 years!
June was an ardent golfer, and she was an accomplished bowler where she won many trophies.
She volunteered for 4H by delivering hay to the Armstrong fair, she loved those road trips and driving their 1969 GMC. She had a passion for gardening and working in the orchard, she could be found on the top of a 12-foot ladder picking cherries. She loved to travel – June, her mother-in-law, and Ted travelled highway 97 all the way from California to Alaska. Her favourite trip was to Barcelona, Spain, where she enjoyed swimming in the Mediterranean.
June enjoyed spending time with friends, the Air Force wives, and the Ellison ladies. The Ellison ladies had a “stitch and b*tch” club, they loved to get together to visit and sew beautiful quilts which they donated. June had a passion for baking and cooking and many of her recipes can be found in the Ellison ladies cookbook.
June loved life and was devoted to her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ted; children Deb (Dwight), Duncan (Leah), Denise (Dom); grandchildren, Nathon (Ljubi), Shawntell (Ryan), Conor (Joelle), Sheena (Corey), Kyle; and great-grandchildren Alexis, Matthew, and Conor. She is sadly predeceased by her parents Harold and Grace; brother John; sisters Betty and Margaret; and grandson Tyrell.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
