We Remember
NIELSEN, Hilda
April 8, 1923 — November 29, 2021
Hilda passed away peacefully at the age of 98, in Kelowna, BC, on November 29, 2021.
Born in Telfordville, AB on April 8, 1923, Hilda lived in Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, and Wetaskiwin, AB, where she raised her family. They then moved to the coast and settled in West Kelowna and Kelowna. Hilda was strong and loyal; she had a great sense of humor.
Hilda is survived by her children Berdine (Don), Shirley, Dolly (Wilf), and Diane (Richard); grandchildren Tazmalee, Rowan, Greg, Jennifer, Neil, Kyle, Jason, Susan, Lincoln, Kathy, and Rick; her 16 great-grandchildren; and her sister Lily; as well as her numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Svend in 1955 and her son Vernon in 2017.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Brian and Caryl McCabe who ‘adopted’ her as their mom, the family is filled with gratitude thinking of you.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
If you wish to send a condolence, post photos, or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences”.
It has been our greatest privilege, honour and joy to be able to call Hilda our “Adopted Mom”. We have delighted in her company and Penny’s for so many years, it is hard to believe that we no longer have those visits to which we can look forward. Hilda was an indomitable spirit! Having lived through world wars, depressions, good times and bad, she was focused on raising her children, loving them and giving them all the values of a caring, sharing family. Hers is a life to celebrate and the proof is in her wonderful and successful kids, grandkids and great grandkids. We want to express our deep appreciation to the Nielsen Clan for sharing her with us, with such kindness and generosity. We love you and we miss you Hilda!
