We Remember
SCHULER, Fred
September 28, 1930 — January 13, 2022
It is with incredible sadness that we announce the passing of our Fred on January 13, 2022. He was a loving husband and best friend to Frances, and an amazing father to Rick and Karin (Barry)
Fred was born in Augsberg Germany, he immigrated to Canada in, 1952. There he worked for the railroad and for a boat builder, and saved his money. In 1961, he became a proud Canadian.
Fred was a successful businessman who owned Fred’s Boats, he worked hard and played hard, he was a competitive water skier himself and was proud to have coached George Athans, who went on to win 3 world waterski titles as well as many international awards. He was an accomplished snow skier, a ski patrol member and ski instructor at Big White. In Germany, he had worked for Mercedes-Benz and Audi, where he raced cars and motorcycles. More importantly, he was a kind man who was loved by his family and his friends.
Fred will be missed by his wife and children, his sister-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, many nieces and nephews in Canada and Europe, as well as a wonderful group of good friends for over 60 years.
No flowers or cards please, instead, donations to the Salvation Army or your favourite charity in Fred’s name would be appreciated.
His family want to thank the wonderful, empathetic staff at Orchard Manor who showed Fred such love and gave him the best of care.
Fred will always be in our hearts and remembered forever by all.
Frances, Rick, Karin, i was so saddened to hear of Fred’s passing. What a wonderful picture of him over his beloved lake. He was a Kelowna and Big White icon. I have fond memories of fuelling up at the marina and the great time of skiing with him in the early days of Big White, he showed me every inch of the mountain from the west ridge (old timers will know what west ridge I’m talking about) to the cliff.
A life well lived.
