On December 2, 2023, Wesley Lowenberg passed away at the age of 71. Wesley was born on September 04, 1952.

Wes’s dedication to his career as a paramedic was nothing short of inspiring. Starting as a part-timer in Pemberton, BC and later becoming a full-time paramedic in Vancouver, BC around 1975, he exemplified true heroism and compassion. Wes began as a primary care paramedic, swiftly advancing to enroll in one of the first Advanced Care Paramedics courses in Vancouver in 1977. His commitment to excellence led him to undertake one of the pioneering Critical Care programs (Airevac programs), contributing significantly to the development of top-tier training within the BC Ambulance service.

Throughout his illustrious career, Wes consistently delivered the highest level of care and professionalism. His impact extended beyond the immediate scope of his work, as he mentored numerous paramedics who went on to uphold his legacy. Even in his later years, Wes generously shared his expertise by taking on temporary supervisory roles until his well-deserved retirement. Post-retirement, he continued to contribute to the field, playing a vital role in the development of electronic tablets that are now an integral part of paramedic practices in BC and around the world.

Wes’s commitment to service was matched only by his dedication to family. As a father, he placed the well-being and happiness of his two children, Taylor and Josh, above all else. His unwavering support and boundless love will forever resonate within his children, who will carry his legacy forward.

Wes touched many hearts and forged lasting connections with a vast network of friends from all corners of the globe, both through his illustrious career and his genuine kindness. His warmth and generosity knew no bounds, leaving an indelible mark on the countless lives he encountered.

In addition to his expansive circle of friends, Wes leaves behind four brothers and sisters, as well as many other family members, who will miss him dearly. His family was a source of strength and support throughout his life, and their bond will endure as a testament to the love and connection that defined Wes’s world.

A close friend shares these heartfelt words: “I am very saddened to have lost my best friend and long-time colleague. Wes was a brother to me, and for over 45 years, we remained good friends, sharing many adventures and holidays together. From the early years of skiing in Whistler in the ’70s to our last trip to Mexico only a few years ago, we remained friends who always had each other’s backs. The world was a better place with Wes in it, and now he is free of all his pain.”

Wes’s legacy is not just one of professional achievement and dedication, but also of the profound impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to call him a friend or family. His memory will continue to resonate, bringing solace to those who mourn his passing and inspiration to those who strive to live a life as rich in compassion and love as his.
