We Remember

MARKIC, Stipe

October 5, 1935 — January 28, 2024

On January 28, 2024, Stipe Markic passed away at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nevenka; their children, Zdenko (Patricia), Zlatko, and Ivica (Jani); grandchildren, Toni (Kevin), Carissa (Nick), Alexandra, Dane, Nathan, Jessi, and Bradley; and great-grandchildren Paityn and Zora. He was predeceased by his parents Dane and Ljuba.

Stipe Markic was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Podum, a village in the city of Livno. He met his wife Nevenka in Lopare and two of his children (Zdenko and Zlatko) were born in Bercko. They then moved to Australia, where Nevenka’s and his last child (Ivica) was born.  They moved again to Canada, where he lived and raised his children for 25 years in Sudbury, ON, and retired in Kelowna, BC for the last 29 years.

Stipe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a devoted Catholic. He was humorous (always telling funny stories), generous (always there to give a helping hand to the people in his community, in any way he could), and he was an adventurist. Stipe loved walking, he and his wife have walked all over Kelowna and its trails at least a dozen times.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers may be sent to the family. If preferred, donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church.
