McMYNN, James G.
August 7, 1930 — February 28, 2024
On February 28, 2024, in Kelowna, BC, James McMynn passed away peacefully at the age of 93.
James was born in Midway, B.C. to Cecil & Ruth McMynn. From his early days at school in Midway, to his schooling in Vancouver, and through to his graduation from the University of British Columbia, he carried the spirit of his hometown with him. In the same year he graduated from UBC, 1955, on a crisp November day, James exchanged vows with Louise Washington. Together, they raised five children in the close-knit community of Midway.
James was the first Mayor of Midway serving from 1967 to 2005 and was passionate about building a community of opportunity. Before he was mayor, he was on the school board that brought the high school to Midway. As a businessman, James was part of the lumber industry; he was vice president of Boundary Sawmills and also opened a local grocery store in 1978 named “Shop Easy”. He devoted countless hours to serving others, earning him not one, but two Queen’s Jubilee Awards for his outstanding contributions to the welfare of Midway and its residents. He was a devoted husband and father. James loved to curl and he was a big supporter of the Boundary District Curling Club. He was also a regular at the high school in the evenings, where he would play badminton. When he could get away, he travelled the globe. He loved to travel.
James McMynn’s legacy endures. In life, James McMynn’s presence was pleasant and sociable. In death, he lives on in the countless lives he enriched with his kindness and laughter.
James is survived by his children James B. McMynn (Kim), Graham McMynn, Douglas McMynn (Jolly), Margo Corrado (Dean), and Susan Talarico (Michael); his grandchildren Robert, Chloe, Caitlin, Nikki, Tasha, Tia, Anthony, Melaina, Elana, Brandon, and Brieana; and his great-grandchildren Ascher, Parker, Hudson, and Karston; as well as his sister, Joan Finnie. Sadly, James was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Louise A. McMynn in 2014.
A Memorial Service with, Kim Bergstrom as Celebrant, will be held on SATURDAY, MARCH 23, 2024, at 1:00 PM (PDT), at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME: 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
A Graveside Service will take place the following day, SUNDAY, MARCH, 24, 2024, at 12:00 NOON, at the VILLAGE OF MIDWAY CEMETERY: Midway, BC.

He was always a pleasant and enthuastic man. He and Louise supported Baldy Mountain Ski area in its early stages They built one of the first cabins in the BÀLDY village and encouraged their family to participate in skiing. We are verry sorry for your loss.

I have some special memories of Jim while living in Midway .
Due to cleaning services rendered of the hardware, post office, former library and their home, Jim gave me the nick name Mrs Clean. To this day that memory makes me smile .
Jim loved Midway and invested much in visioning for it with good leadership as mayor.

Although we didn’t see him often, Jimmy and our mom (cousin Aileen Porter) did enjoy lively and engaging conversations with him on the phone over the years. They talked at least once a year before aphasia took her speech. She was always so happy after speaking with him! He will be missed by all.
