We Remember

TURTON, Christopher Lewis Herbert

March 1, 1939 — April 10, 2024

On April 10, 2024, Christopher Turton departed this world. Christopher was born in the Kelowna General Hospital on March 1, 1939, to Frank and Doris Turton. He was raised on an orchard in East Kelowna. As a young man he was active in Cubs, Scouts, and the BC Dragoons.  He loved the outdoors and was a true adventurer.

Chris travelled to the Yukon and met Shirley (née McDonald) who he married in 1960. The two of them and their sons, Troy and Mark, moved back to Kelowna, BC a few years later. Their daughter Cindy was born in Kelowna in 1962.

While running his own orchard, Chris and his brother Ted started Cedarwood Custom Homes.  Later, the two of them took over ownership of Apex Land and Orchards and Keloka Orchards to become Canada West Tree Fruits, which was one of the largest privately owned orchards in Canada at that time.

Chris and Shirley’s youngest daughter Jennifer was born in 1969.

A true adventurer, Chris loved the outdoors. He was happiest while in the wilderness, fishing or hunting.  In 1985, he built his dream catamaran, and in the years to follow, hosted many exciting boat trips up and down the Pacific West coast.

Chris was an innovator in the tree fruit industry and was also a land developer. He built McCulloch Orchard Greens Golf Course in the 1990s and also was involved in BC’s early cider industry.

Chris’s life was one to be celebrated, not mourned.

Chris will be remembered and celebrated by his children, Troy (Laurie), Mark (Mary Jane), Cindy, and Jennifer (Kent); his grandchildren, Tori, Lucas, Lindsey, Emily, Christopher, Meghan, Maddie, Phoebe, and Amy. He will also be missed by his siblings, Ted Turton and Rick Turton. Sadly, he was predeceased by his wife Shirley; his sister Sally; and his parents Frank & Doris.

A Celebration of Life will take place on FRIDAY, MAY 10, 2024, at 2:00 PM (PDT), at St. Mary’s Anglican Church: 2710 East K.L.O. Rd, Kelowna, BC. A reception will follow in the East Kelowna Hall.
