We Remember

GORSLINE, Harvey Grant

March 16, 1951 — October 12, 2024

With deep sorrow and love, we announce the passing of Harvey Grant Gorsline of Kelowna, BC, on October 12, 2024, at Kelowna Hospice House at the age of 73.

Harvey will be dearly remembered by his beloved wife of 51 years, Cynthia; his mother Gloria Gorsline; and his daughter Megan Ndegwa and grandchildren Benjamin and Amaya; and daughter Lorna Smid (Tyler) and grandchildren Charlotte, Stella, and Hannah. He is also survived by his sister Dawn Vaasjo (Brian) along with a wide circle of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. He was predeceased by his father Bill Gorsline and his in-laws, Henry & Joyce Mikkelson.

Born in Vegreville, Alberta, on March 16, 1951, Harvey spent his early years in Edmonton, AB. He joined the R.C.M.P. in April 1970, serving for 27 years in various communities across BC, including Prince Rupert; Bella Coola; Terrace; White Rock; Boston Bar; Fort St. John; Kamloops; and finally, Nelson, where he retired as a Sergeant in November 1996. Throughout his career, he and Cynthia built lasting friendships. After retiring, he became the Western Canada manager for Whelen Engineering in Connecticut, USA, where he enjoyed a successful 20-year career in emergency equipment sales. Following 16 years in Nelson, Harvey and Cynthia moved to Kelowna, and he retired again in 2016. They also loved spending winters in Sun City Grand, Arizona.

Harvey cherished time with family and friends, whether boating on Kootenay Lake, fishing at Peregrine Lodge, or hunting with close friends. He was a golfer at the Okanagan Golf Club and enjoyed trap shooting and 22 plinking, often followed by lunches with his buddies. An active member of the Rotary Club in Kamloops, Nelson, and Kelowna, he was proud to be recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Known for his larger-than-life personality and charisma, Harvey valued his connections deeply. In line with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2025 to honour and share memories of Harvey.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kelowna Hospice House or the BC Cancer Foundation.

Harvey will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew him.
