We Remember

NOWLIN, Valerie Yvonne

August 16, 1960 — October 17, 2024

It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved wife, Valerie Nowlin, who went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2024, at Kelowna General Hospital, at the age of 64.

She is survived by Marvin Nowlin, her spouse of 37 years; sister Carole Kinnear; brother David MacLaren; sister Julie MacLaren; aunt Bonnie Jackson; brother-in-law William Nowlin; and her Bichon girls Ocean and River.  She was predeceased by her parents Sheran and David (Scotty) MacLaren; and Vera MacLaren.

Born in Bradford on Avon, England, Valerie moved with her family to Calgary in 1967, eventually making her way through Prince George, Battleford, and Campbell River. She married me, Marvin Nowlin, in Campbell River, and together we journeyed through Fort Nelson, Mackenzie, back to Campbell River, Fraser Lake, and finally settled in Kelowna.

Valerie had a deep love for all animals, especially our Bichon girls, Ocean and River. Her compassion extended to all creatures; she would lovingly save spiders and beetles and never harm a living being. A generous soul, Val donated to numerous pet organizations, both locally and around the world.

She was a kind spirit, always filled with love and joy. I will forever cherish the happy twinkle in her eyes, and the special bond we shared. In her professional life, Valerie thrived as an owner/operator of several Subway franchises, where she brought joy and laughter to both her employees and customers.

Val enjoyed arts and crafts, creative writing, and even took courses to help others improve their reading and writing skills.

Valerie was loved by all who knew her, and I love her dearly. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
