We Remember
Moynes, Dorothy Bernice
January 2, 1928 — December 16, 2024
Dorothy, a compassionate registered nurse and devoted family member, passed away in Kelowna, BC, on December 16, 2024, surrounded by the love that defined her life. Known for her extraordinary ability to listen, her infectious laughter, and quiet strength, Dorothy embodied generosity and humility in every aspect of her life.
Born in a small town in Saskatchewan, Dorothy grew up in a large family of 12 children, where she learned the value of hard work and the importance of education – lessons she would carry throughout her life. A dedicated registered nurse by profession, Dorothy extended her calling of care beyond her career, volunteering for 23 years in the Kelowna Hospital and touching countless lives with her selfless spirit.
Her true passion was her family, and she was always genuinely interested in people’s lives. Dorothy was an avid traveller who loved playing cards and cherished family time at Christina Lake and holidays. After moving from Trail, BC 36 years ago to be closer to loved ones, she created a life centred on connection and love.
An avid sports enthusiast, Dorothy found pure joy in golfing, playing bridge, water-skiing, downhill skiing, and curling. She approached each sport with the same enthusiasm she brought to everything in her life. Her husband Jim was her lifelong partner in adventure and love.
Dorothy was remarkable not only for what she accomplished, but for how she made people feel – heard, valued, and deeply loved. She rarely complained, instead choosing to focus on the blessings in her life and supporting those around her.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie Bush and Jeanie Moynes (Andy Freeland); her grandchildren, Allan Bush (Devon), David Bush (Ashley), Katie Bush, and Kristy Cestas (Justin Stewart), and Michael Cestas (Amy); her great-grandchildren, Stella and Rachel Bush, and Calum Stewart. Her legacy is not in her achievements, but in the lives she touched and the love she freely gave.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, www.kghfoundation.com.
