We Remember
YAMAOKA, Tomoye
June 12, 1942 — December 11, 2024
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of beloved, mother, grandmother and friend, Tomoye Yamaoka on December 11, 2024, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 82.
Born on June 12, 1942, in Greenwood, BC, she grew up in Steveston, BC, and relocated to Kelowna in 1968 where she settled and raised her family. Tomoye graduated with a degree in education from UBC and was very proud of her time as an elementary school teacher, most notably her time teaching kindergarten.
Tomoye was predeceased by her husband Nobuo and brothers Masaharu & Thomas. Tomoye is survived by her children Cyndi (Tom) and Kevin (Marnie); grandchildren Bret, Charlotte, and Kaleb; and brother, Miffune.
“Gma” will always be known for her cooking, second to none baking, and the ability to sew, knit or crochet practically anything. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family and time volunteering at the Buddhist temple. Tomoye loved her orchids and her garden, and occasional visits to the local casino.
There will be no service at Tomoye’s request, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to the charity of your choice or take a moment to get outside and plant a flower in her memory.
