Passed away with family by her side after a brief struggle with cancer on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the age of 56. Survived by her daughter Ariis Knight of Langley, BC, son David (Maria) Knight of Kelowna, BC, brother Aron (Phadra) MacPherson of Surrey, BC and sister Judy Dey of Vancouver, BC. Predeceased by her husband Bill. Special warm thanks to Hospice House staff for helping Mom maintain her dignity and independence in her last months and for keeping her comfortable. We are also grateful to all of Mom’s family and friends who have supported her in her time of need. There will be a private family service.     Barb was truly an amazing person, my heart aches for her son David, daughter Ariis, and her brother Aron.

    I would like to share a few little things about Barb that many people were not aware of:
    At age 3 she took 1st place in world competition of highland dancing. She competed in what Scotland calls the sword dance. This is a very difficult, methodical, and timely dance that takes a lot of endurance and self discipline. Her father Duncan MacPherson was very proud of her.
    Her daddy spoiled her rotten. In elementary school Barb was an A+ student. By grade 6 she was bored with school, she wanted to grow up and do things and experience life.
    Many of you probably don’t know that when Barb was a young teen she barely escaped death. In a freak accident riding in a van with some friends, the van hit a pole and was rolled onto its side. When emergency crews arrived to the scene, her friends were accounted for with no casualties, but minor injuries. They could not find Barb. They then realized she was under the van. How such a tiny person survived that we will never know. But she was a tough cookie! When Barb was in her twenties and a young mom she attended college and studied psychology and then went further and studied criminology. She thought she might persue a career as a parole officer. She always had an interest of how the mind
    works. So much more I could tell you about Barb, but I would have to write a book. In her last years she finally got her much wanted nursing career and I understand she was an excellent and compassionate nurse.
    Most amazing thing I saw in her was her independence and her love for her children.
    A truly strong Woman my baby cousin/sister. Love you for always Barb, Love you forever xo Doe Doe (Judy)
