We Remember
MCGINN, Karen (nee Adams)
—
Passed away after a five year battle with ALS on April 7, 2015 in Kelowna, BC. Survived by her loving husband of 17 years, Lance and their three children Kaitlyn, Emily and Tyson; her mother Judy (Gordon) Turner, brother Duane (Valerie) Adams, sister Cheryl (Murray) Brown; her nephews Richard and Grady and niece Elizabeth. A Celebration of Karen’s life will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 3:00 pm at First Lutheran Church, 4091 Lakeshore Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ALS Society of BC, 1233 – 13351 Commerce Parkway, Richmond, BC V6V 2X7.
Karen was born May 13, 1972 in Calgary, Alberta. She began her life on the family farm north of Cochrane, Alberta with her older brother Duane, and sister Cheryl. In 1977 the family sold their farm in Cochrane and moved to Bridge Lake B.C. where Karen started kindergarten. Karen, her mom and sister moved back to Alberta in 1979 and lived in Calgary for a short time before moving to the farm at Blackie, where her brother joined them later. In Blackie she gained a new step father, sister and brother. Karen started grade 2 in Blackie School in 1979 and continued her education there until grade 9. In 1987 she attended high school in High River and graduated from Senator Riley in 1990. After graduation she attended SAIT in Calgary for a short time. She worked and lived in Calgary, High River and Lethbridge over the next few years. Karen met Lance in 1992 while living in Lethbridge attending LCC . Karen and Lance were married July 11, 1998 and built a house in Calgary. While in Calgary, she worked for Medi Gas and then Praxaire. Karen and Lance moved to West Kelowna in 2002 when Lance’s work, BC Tree Fruits transferred him. They never looked back loving the water, boating, sunshine, heat and maybe even the wine. They were overjoyed with the arrival of their first daughter Kaitlyn Sarah McGinn who was born on October 15, 2005 and the twins Tyson Everett and Emily Grace completed the family on June 11, 2008. Unfortunately in the fall of 2011 Karen was given the devastating news that she had ALS. On the morning of Tuesday, April 7, 2015 we lost Karen. She fought long and hard with the kind of courage and strength none of us will ever forget. She will missed always.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Karen’s passing. Our heart felt condolences to you Lance, and your family. She was a strong and amazing woman, we will miss her dearly. Our thoughts are with you.
I am so sorry to hear of Karen’s passing. She was a beautiful person who was a fantastic friend who accepted you for you. One of my best memories of Karen is staying the weekend with her out at the family farm laying on the round bales in the dark looking up in the sky and talking about all our big plans after high school.
Dear Lance.
I was just informed today from another ex-BCTF employee about Karen. I am deeply sorry to hear about Karen. My heart goes out to you, your kids, your families and friends. Please take care of yourself Lance.
It’s tough to express my gratitude for allowing me to be a part of this journey. Some of my toughest days as a nurse were spent with Karen yet I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Karen taught me so very much over the last couple of years and I will NEVER forget her (or you guys). So many times she thanked “me” but I am the one that was so thankful. My heart breaks to think of you (Lance), Kaitlyn, Emily and Tyson beginning this next chapter without her. I have no doubt that you will get through this. You are all an amazing family and I know that you have an entire army of family and friends that will help in any way they can. May you find comfort in the support from those family and friends and the one thing ALS COULDN’T take from you… Karen’s love for each of you… you all meant the world to her – Leisa
Lance: Your parents always talked about you, Karen and the kids when we visited them. We were so saddened to hear of Karen’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at this time. Erika and Tim (former neighbours of your Mom and Dad on Riverdale Terrace).
Lance and family, words cannot begin to express the sorrow of your loss. Karen was an amazing person, a devoted wife and a dedicated mother. I am keeping you close in my thoughts during this difficult time.
Judy, Gord and family. We are so sorry for your loss of your beautiful daughter, Karen. You are in or thoughts and Prayers.

Lance – We just learned today of Karen’s recent passing. We are so sad and heartbroken at this tragic news. Even though we haven’t seen your family since we moved back to Ontario four years ago, we have very fond memories of you, Karen, Kaitlyn, Emily and Tyson. We are so very very sorry for the four of you. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and that we will always remember the Karen we knew – a vivacious, fun-loving, caring and sweet young woman who took such pride in you and your children. God bless you, bring you peace and strengthen you at this time of such need.
