Kelowna Women’s Shelter
Springfield Funeral Home is proud to be among the financial supporters of the Kelowna Women’s Shelter, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing women a safe haven and caring support, regardless of age, status, or income.
A few words about support and compassion
We wanted to state a few words about support and compassion here, because we are naturally drawn to businesses and organizations that specialize in these traits. In essence, we feel a kinship with them, especially those in Kelowna.
Funerals are what we do, and throughout the year, we engage tears, and we see sadness. And while the tears and sadness we see are perfectly normal, we know there is an obligation on our part to be pillars of care in our community – i.e., somebody has to be the shoulder to cry on, and be there to handle the details, no matter how tragic or sad the circumstances are. So we do our best to comfort the inevitable grief that comes with a loved one’s passing, but also to support our neighbours in the transitions they face in their lives.
We understand that there are clear differences between the support we provide and the support provided by the Kelowna Women’s Shelter. Regardless of circumstances, almost all people will need the services and support of a funeral home such as ours – this is because death is a normal part of life. We expect to be here for all of our neighbours at one time or another, and in turn, they trust us to be there for them as well.
In contrast, most women go through life hoping they never need the services and support of a women’s shelter. In fact, the women’s shelter is oftentimes a last resort. But their support and compassion are no less needed – indeed, we’d argue that it’s MORE important. And that’s why Springfield Funeral Home has chosen to support Kelowna Women’s Shelter.
