We Remember
BALLARD, Bernadette Claire
—
Passed away on November 24, 2015 at the age of 87. Survived by her daughter Adele Wooldridge (Duayne) of West Kelowna, BC; sons: Gary Norman Dietrich (Janice) of Red Deer, AB, Donald Lester Ballard (Sandy) of Victoria, BC, Ronald Arthur Ballard (Shelby) of Prince George, BC, Glen Loyal Ballard (Cindy) of Mexico; grandchildren: Amber, Chad, Jordan, Corinna, Sheree, Bonnie, Loyal, Brandon, Abbey, Erin and Levi; great grandchildren: Charlotte, Alice, Arianna, Isla, Bria, Joshua and Aiden; sister Bertha Heinz of Regina, SK; brothers: Alphonse Brochu (Georgina) of Regina, SK, Emile Brochu (Hannah) of Regina and Jerime Brochu (Phil) of Assiniboine, SK. Predeceased by her husband Loyal Ballard, sister Maria Quail, brothers Joseph Brochu and Jerime Valere Brochu. Bernadette was known to all as “Bonnie” and is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her deeply. Her smile and strong will are things that will never be forgotten. Bonnie was actually born on a leap year, but her Dad thought every little girl should have a birthday every year so he registered her on February 28th instead. She was the eldest child of Marie Louise and Arthur Brochu and born in Saskatchewan. “She will forever be missed, but never forgotten.” Bonnie loved her garden and worked hard raising her children with her husband Loyal, while holding down the “fort” for him answering his business calls on the phone while he worked. She will always be remembered for her radiant smile and kind demeanour. A strong, feisty little lady that stood up for herself and was a mentor to her entire family. Everyone who knew Bonnie loved her; even if it was for a very short time. She lived in Creston for many years and relocated to live with her daughter in West Kelowna in 2011. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, followed by a reception at the Springfield Funeral Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation. Aunt Bonnie was a wonderful lady, so energetic, loving and committed to family. I have such endearing memories of our family vacations together. We so wish that we could celebrate Aunt Bonnie’s life with you. We offer our deepest sympathy to all her family.

Adele and family,
Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
Although we only met briefly, it was obvious Bonnie had great strength, will and fortitude. Hold dear the memories you all possess of Mom, Grandmother and friend and share them freely in kindness. Celebrate a life well lived.
Adele, so sorry to hear of your moms passing. My thoughts are with you.
Aunt Bonnie was a very special Auntie to me. My mother, her sister, and Bernadette (as her mother called her) were very close and we spent some fun times together at their home in Canyon on our summer holidays with Aunt Bonnie, Uncle Loyal and all us nine kids! My Mom’s early days when she left home were in her sister’s footsteps, working for the postmaster’s family in Radville, then following her to Summerland, B.C. where they both met their future husbands. As others have said, she was a spirited, feisty lady. My mom said she was a tomboy who would rather be out riding horses and with her brothers rather than at home helping out Grandma. I remember she always had a beautiful, bountiful garden; she was a hard worker, and even five years ago at her home in Creston she was up on her ladder, cleaning the gutters? There were many good times together. I will miss her and her smile and her hugs. Our deepest condolences to her children and siblings and grandchildren. Anita and John
Don and family,
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother and grandmother/great grandmother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
It was always an exciting time when Uncle Loyal and Aunt Bonnie came to Saskatchewan for a visit. The families would all try to gather to spent time with them. I always enjoyed these visits. Really wish we could be there to celebrate Aunt Bonnie’s life. My sympathies to all her children and extended family.
My earliest memories of Aunt Bonnie are of her gardening on a summer day. On our visits we were always treated with fresh vegetables. Bonnie’s home cooking and baking were prized by family and friends.
One summer in the ’60’s I spent two weeks visiting Aunt Bonnie,Uncle Loyal and my cousins Don,Ron,Glen and Adele. So many memories of biking, swimming, and waterskiing on Kootney Lake!
How patient and caring Bonnie was with all of us !
Aunt Bonnie had so much energy she never seemed to tire! I remember Bonnie and Uncle Loyal square dancing in the evenings. How cute Bonnie looked in her home made outfits!
Aunt Bonnie loved her family and extended family. We will all cherish her memory!
Love and condolences, Eileen,Jim and family
Bonnie was our very first tenant in our brand new apartment building here in Creston. She was simply a wonderful lady, and we were in awe of her energy! We are glad we had an opportunity to know her, and send our heart felt sympathy to her family.
