BAUER, Katherina/Katharina
—
At age 89, Katharina Bauer went to be with the Lord on April 8, 2022. She was at Three Links Manor in Kelown, BC, and she was surrounded by family.
Katharina is survived by her childern Marlene (Fred) Schrod & Raymond (Rose) Bauer, as well as her grandchildren Phillip, Katrina, & Jennifer Schrod, and Emily, & Rachel Bauer. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Samuel Bauer (d. 2018); her parents Johann & Margarethe Schmidt; and her siblings Margarethe, Eva, Johann, Helene, & Michael.
Katharina was born on August 26, 1932, as the 4th daughter, and 5th of 6 children in Yugoslavia. As a result of the war, she fled from her family home and was forced to live in a refugee camp as a child. In 1948 following the war, Katharina relocated to Germany where she was reunited with most of her siblings in a town called Eberdingen. In 1957, along with siblings Eva and Michael, she immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, where she found work in a factory. In January 1965, she married Samuel Bauer and made a home in Scarborough, Ontario, where both her children were born. In 1973, the Bauer family decided to follow the lead of many of their German friends with young families that had already moved from Ontario to Kelowna, BC. Once the Bauer family was settled in Kelowna, Katharina focused on being a homemaker and Christian example to her children. She loved to bake, look after her substantial vegetable garden, and enjoyed spending time reading and sewing. After the passing of her husband Samuel, Katharina lived with her children. As a result of an injury on New Year’s morning 2019, it became necessary for her to move into Three Links Manor, where she was well cared for and lived until she passed away.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
A Private Graveside Funeral Service will be held for family, with Pastor Ed Hahn Officiating.
