We Remember
BERTUCCI, Vincenzo
—
My tears are making it hard to see the screen to write this sad proclamation, my beloved and amazing Papa passed away, unexpectedly, at Kelowna General Hospital, at 13:23, on October 28, 2022. The name bestowed upon him is Vincenzo, which means “Conqueror”. Papa lived up to his moniker until the very end. Papa suffered a stroke 6 months ago but managed this illness with extraordinary strength, grace, and humour. He was 88 years old, but we all thought he would live forever because of his passion and zest for life. My sister Theresa, who Papa lived with, took excellent care of him; I helped a lot as well. He was the centre of our universe, and so we are now ships without a rudder!
Papa was born in a small village in Italy called Pontecosi, to parents, Maria and Cesare. Papa followed his, now deceased, brother Anthony “Tony” to Canada. Once in Canada, he met and fell in love with our gorgeous mother, Valentina, who is also deceased. Papa is survived by me, his daughter, Diana; his daughter, Theresa; his son Paul; and his brother, Angelo, who resides in Pontecosi, Italy.
Papa loved to dance, eat, and cook. We spent endless hours making ravioli, tomato sauce, sausage, jam, bread, donuts, pasta, all spearheaded by Papa. His legacy will forever live on in all of us! He was not just a person, he was a joyous EVENT that lit up any room he entered! Our lives will never be the same.
