We Remember
BLACK, Barrie Norman
November 10, 1932 — May 29, 2022
Sadly, Barrie said goodbye at the age of 89 yrs. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie; his children Janine, Randy, Gary, Bruce, and their spouses; 9 grandchildren; sister Helene; and his niece and nephew in California.
Barrie’s earliest jobs included working in the laundry services at Vancouver General Hospital, his father’s long-haul trucking company on routes across Canada, and later working on a dredge at Yukon Placer Gold Mine. Back in Vancouver, Barrie built his first boat – it was this boat combined with an employment offer as a salesman for Lance Bissett Ltd. that led Barrie to Kelowna in 1958. He would remain with the company for the next 34 years until retirement in 1992.
The Kelowna Gyro Club was very important to him as well. Barrie was a long-time member enjoying many activities, gatherings, and mixed meetings with lots of stories and laughter. He also traveled to many other Clubs making more friendships.
Barrie would like to thank all his loyal customers who visited his Black Christmas Tree Farm over many years – making memories for the children, and the dogs who loved running around!
He will miss the friendship of many, some made over 60 years ago, during his water-skiing days on Okanagan Lake, skiing at Big White, tennis with the “Out to Lunch” gang in the summer, and golf with his buddies at Kelowna Golf and Country Club.
To all his personal golf friends, he would like them to know that when they see their golf ball on the green wiggle back and forth, then straighten out again and go into the hole – remember that is Barrie helping you out! No reservations, restrictions, or handicaps are required at his now present golf course; tee times are always available.
He was welcomed to his new residence by many family members and friends, including his 8 brothers-in-law waiting for him to join them, all sitting underneath an apple tree having a drink overlooking the fantastic view they have.
Special thanks to all in his life (you know who you are) for the wonderful memories.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be announced at a future date
