We Remember
BOBYN, David
September 4, 1964 — July 13, 2023
We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Dr. David William Bobyn on July 13, 2023. David was born to Dr. Patrick and Holly Bobyn in Saskatoon, SK on September 4, 1964, a birthdate he shared with his identical twin brother Donald. The twins, David and Donald, were the youngest of five boys in the Bobyn family. David moved to Kelowna, BC with his family in 1976 and attended Dorothea Walker Elementary School and OKM High School, where he graduated in 1982. He went on to attend the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with distinction from the College of Dentistry, earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 1993.
David moved back to the Okanagan after graduation from Dental College. He embarked on a long and rewarding dental career, first working as an associate with his good friend and life-long mentor, Dr. Ian Leitch. Soon afterward, he opened his own dental practice, the Glenvalley Dental Centre. Together with Chelsea Cross, Angela Laverdiere, and the rest of his dedicated staff, David and his team established a vibrant and fun dental practice that delivered quality dental health to many patients over almost 30 years. He was particularly proud of the latest technology and innovations he incorporated into his practice, and was always seeking ways to improve his patients’ experience. David absolutely loved practising dentistry and valued the special relationships he established with his staff and patients.
David had numerous colleagues and close friends, with whom he diligently maintained life-long relationships. He relished his time spent with his pals Jack McEachnie and Scott Ferguson, and he was always quick to sign up for an adventure or escapade with them. One of David’s greatest passions was landscaping and gardening in his backyard; he often enlisted the help of his extensive network of friends and family to help him build a pizza oven, a built-in barbeque, fire pits, and several other features. With his brother Larry, he would often spend weekends gathering enormous rocks from the hills around Kelowna to use in his landscape designs.
Above all else, David cherished his two children, Dana and Steven. They were the focal point of his life, and he was intimately involved in their lives, from birth to adulthood. This was his greatest joy. David was always excited to share stories of Dana and Steven’s accomplishments and achievements, and took great delight in sharing videos and pictures of them. He worked tirelessly to be a good father to Dana and Steven, and he was so proud of them as they were growing up and proud of the wonderful people they have become.
David is survived by his two children, Dana (Cameron) and Steven; his mother, Holly Anne; siblings Michael (Valerie), Larry (Holly), and Marty (Charlene), together with numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Martina, the mother of Dana and Steven. David was predeceased by his father, Dr. Patrick Bobyn, in 1992 and his twin brother Donald in 2022.
David was laid to rest in a private family memorial service held on July 28, 2023. Details regarding the celebration of David’s life will be announced at a later date.

To: Michael and Larry I would like to send my deepest condolences to you and your families on the passing of your brother.
I’m so sad. I really thought we’d be seeing Dr. Bobyn well into our old age.
He was always so good and kind to me. While David was very goofy he always listened patiently. He teased me about bringing questions yet always took the time to answer them and explain what was happening when I asked. You could tell he loved his job.
Last year I told him how much I appreciated him. I had no idea that would be the last time I saw him.
He was so proud of his children. He’d always talk about them and tell me when they were coming to visit as he was so excited to spend time with them. I could tell how much he absolutely loved them. I’m so very sorry for their great loss.
With deepest and sincerest condolences to all of Dr. Bobyn’s family, colleagues and friends.

Our deepest condolences to Dr Bobyn’s family and the staff at GlenValley Dental such sad news he was a kind funny man and the greatest dentist ever …he will be missed very much.
From the moment I met Dr. Bobyn in his office I had the best experience. He made me laugh and I couldn’t wait to tease him every chance I got. Naturally I got the same reaction back from him. Never had a dentist quite to compare with him. I will miss him so much, what a wonderful man.
To All ,
From his wife and kids as we read these messages. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers . He was everything to us . He would love your kind words to all of us .❤️
We have never before had the privilege of meeting a dentist such as David, who loved his work, cared deeply for his patients and loved to kibitz and joke while you were “in the chair”. He will be deeply missed, not only as a dentist but as an amazing person who cared so much, laughed so freely and loved life.
We were truly shocked when we read the email letter that was sent out after his passing. No words to explain it. He was our dentist for over 25 years. He always had a smile and loved to chat with you while he had your mouth open and could only make had gestures to answer his questions. Truly a great guy, We will miss him very much. He made you feel comfortable in his chair.
