We Remember

CHOI, Sam

November 10, 1953 — February 12, 2025

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Sam Choi at the age of 71. Predeceased by one of his brothers, Sam leaves behind his beloved wife of over four decades, Charmaine Lehman; and his cherished daughter, Amanda Lehman-Choi, and son-in-law, Ian Twa. He will also be missed by three brothers and a sister, as well as by his devoted canine companions, Puppy, Blue, and Apollo.

Born in Hong Kong, Sam immigrated to Canada in 1971, embracing his new home with his characteristic determination and independence. A man of great intellect, success, and generosity, he dedicated himself to educating others in the complexities of stocks and investments, never seeking compensation but instead deriving satisfaction from empowering those around him. His belief was simple yet deeply held: to truly care for someone is to wish for their success.

Sam’s ability to connect with others was remarkable. He made friends everywhere he went and built strong, lasting communities, valuing friendship and treating everyone with respect. His kindness and wisdom influenced many lives, and his impact will ripple forward for generations to come. Whether in Vancouver, Leduc, China, Edmonton, or Kelowna – each place he lived became a home not just for him, but for the friendships he nurtured there.

Sam found joy in life’s simple routines. The pool and steam room were among his favourite places to gather, reflect, and connect with friends – be it at the Leduc Recreation Centre, Beaumont Recreation Centre, or H2O in Kelowna. He was also a familiar and cherished regular at Sam Wok in Edmonton, where conversations flowed as easily as the meals he enjoyed.

Sam was funny, a great conversationalist with a distinctive sense of humour, and his presence left an enduring impression on those who knew him. His life was a reminder to the power of generosity, friendship, and quiet perseverance.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Edmonton, AB, at a later date – details to come.
