COOK, Andrew “Scotty” David
—
Scotty Cook went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 13, 2023, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 89.
He is lovingly remembered by his children Donna (Kelly), Keith (Brenda), and Jolene (Mark); grandchildren Brandon (Becky), Jadyn (Cherise), Taelyn, Ashley (Matt), Tyler (Kennedy), Nate, and Jace; great-grandchildren Carter, Everly, Adison, Linden, and Cayden; and companion Joyce Kyle. He goes to join those who went before: his parents Jessie and Reginald; 6 siblings; and his beloved wife, Beth.
An entrepreneur at heart, Scotty opened his first business “Brunings Low Cost“, a grocery store, in Youbou, BC, and later added a butcher shop in Lake Cowichan, BC. Together with his wife, Beth, they operated for nearly 20 years.
Beth and Scotty had an open home and open hearts. They loved living on the lake and were hospitable and welcoming to all. Some (many) even chose to stay – indefinitely.
Upon Scotty’s retirement, the couple relocated to Duncan, BC, where they enjoyed spending time in the garden. Scotty enjoyed his time with extended family, and their pets. He was an avid sportsman. In his early years, he was an accomplished ski jumper. One of his favourite sport team sports was softball, and his most favourite team was Scotty’s Little Softies, a family team he coached. He also enjoyed curling and golf.
In 2011, Scotty and Beth moved to Kelowna, BC. Sadly, Beth passed away in 2012. Scotty then became a resident at Missionwood Retirement Resort, where he found a warm and caring community. Always charming and very social, Scotty made friends and brought a smile to staff and residents. As his health declined, those who cared for him continually commented on how much they loved him.
Scotty will be remembered for his notoriously bad-dad jokes. That’s a legacy which continues on through the men in the family. He had an intense love for his family. A love that will continue on in the hearts of each one that loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations can be sent to the Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, BC.
