The daughter of Percy and Olive Hill, Diane was predeceased by her grandparents: Steven (Mary Jane Stewart) Hill, William (Olive Brewer) Sluggett – Jack Goldsworthy, and brothers: Jim (Ellen), Alvin, and Ken. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Bernard Desrosiers; children: Chantelle (Matt Whitt), Ryan (Trish), and Jarrett (Holli); grandchildren: Alexandra, Nevin, Lily and Thea; brothers: Victor (Cecille), George (Juliette), Don (Norma), and Les (Colleen); sisters-in-law: Shirley, Reeny, Linda (Hill), and Aurore Lauzon; a number of treasured nephews and nieces; and by an extensive Desrosiers family.
Diane was an honours graduate of the 1967 graduation class of Bjorkdale High School. She completed her Standard Teaching Certificate in 1969 going on to teach elementary school in Tisdale and La Crete, Alberta. After taking time out raising her family and teaching ESL part-time while completing her B.A. and B. Ed. from the U of A, Diane returned to teach ESL full time to refugees, immigrants and New Canadians — first at Grande Prairie Regional College and finally at Okanagan College in Salmon Arm, BC. She finished out her career as an immigrant settlement worker working for the Shuswap Settlement Services Society which she and Bernie were instrumental in initiating. Both Diane and Bernie worked to end hate and discrimination, to promote ethnic diversity, tolerance and inclusion, and to achieve social equity through their work with the N.D.P. and community action groups.
