We Remember

EMMOND, Cameron Robert Thomas
October 25, 1942 — March 20, 2025
Born on October 25, 1942, Cameron Emmond passed away on March 20, 2025.
A beloved husband, father and educator, Cam spent many years shaping young minds as a teacher and principal. He travelled with his new wife, Sandy, to the Northwest Territories in the 1960s to pursue that love of teaching. He and Sandy lived in Killiniq Island, Nunavut; Hay River, NWT; Tungsten, NWT; and Fort Simpson, NWT. They met their lifelong friends Ted and Ruby Barbor in Can Tung and had many adventures, enjoying all aspects of northern life.
As the Emmond clan expanded with daughters Leah, Simone and son Kieran, they decided to move south. They spent a few years in Grande Prairie, AB before moving to Penticton, BC. Cam began his first principalship at Kaleden Elementary before moving to Wiltse Elementary and Columbia Elementary School. He became known as an educator who could easily connect with kids and had unwavering patience and kindness for all who visited his office.
Another passion of Cam’s was camping. He and Sandy enjoyed camping in British Columbia and the Oregon coast, but after retirement, they explored further south. They spent many years escaping the winters of Canada in Yuma, Arizona, where they spent time with good friends and Cam’s sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Patti Hack. Cam also loved all kinds of music, which he enjoyed listening to with a nice glass of wine. Many family vacations were had that involved teaching his grandkids how to swim, great conversations, good food, late nights, music from all genres and great wines.
The last years of Cam’s life were spent in West Kelowna, BC, with Sandy and his beloved dog Ginger. His brother Shell was a frequent visitor during Cam’s final days in hospice.
Cam is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Emmond; his cherished children, Simone and Kieran; and his adored grandchildren, Colton, Kiefer, Avery, Jack, Shea, Katelynn, Breyanna, and Karina. He is predeceased by his daughter Leah, his parents, Gertie and Jack and brother-in-law Jim Hack.
