We Remember

FOLLWEITER, Emily Marion

December 22, 1937 — May 27, 2024

It is with great love and profound sadness that we announce the loss of Emily Marion Follweiter, who passed away on May 27, 2024, at the age of 86.

Born to Henry and Natalie Lange in Beausejour, Manitoba, mom was the eldest of six children; including Carol, Hank, Marjorie (Ron), David (Marlene), and Joyce (Harry). During her early years, the family moved quite often, but eventually made their permanent home in Kamloops, British Columbia, when mom was a young teenager. A few short years later, mom was introduced to John Follweiter, and they were married on June 4th, 1955.

Mom and dad built their own home in Brocklehurst, living in this residence for over 50 years. There, they raised four children; namely Darlene, Wendy, Warren (Kathy) and Glen (Marni).

Mom was an incredible cook and baker. Many family dinners were enjoyed by all at mom and dads. She was also an avid gardener. If she wasn’t in the kitchen, you would find her outside tending to her beautiful flower beds or her huge vegetable garden. She had the most beautiful rockery in the front yard. Every year, many people walking by would stop to admire mom’s heavenly creation, and she would be so proud.

Mom was very involved with the Lutheran Church, attending church service regularly and helping out wherever she was needed.  She had a strong faith, and it showed in the way she treated people. She was the first to greet people wherever she went, and she didn’t have to know you very well to greet you with a huge hug. It was always said, “your mom gives the best hugs”.

She loved her family, and whenever anyone needed help, she was the first one there. We could always depend on mom, no matter what. Mom especially loved her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She never missed a birthday or sending gifts to them all at Christmas.

Following dad’s passing in 2017, mom moved to West Kelowna to be close to her daughter, Darlene. She resided at Westwood Retirement Resort for seven years. Mom loved living there, making many friends, and enjoying the many services Westwood had to offer.

She was predeceased by infant daughter Maureen; husband John; daughter Wendy; and brother Hank.

Mom was loved by all that knew her.  She will be missed and forever in our hearts!

A Celebration of Life for Emily will be held at 1:30 p.m. on SATURDAY, JULY 20, 2024, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2481 Sunset Drive, Kamloops, B.C.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Peter Warren and the nursing staff at Brookhaven Care Centre (Spartan Unit) for looking after mom during her final months of life. She was in so much pain near the end, and they did all they could to keep her as comfortable as possible during this time.

Rest in peace, mom!
