We Remember

GILLATLY, Charlotte Thomasina

February 20, 1931 — September 21, 2023

At the age of 92, Charlotte Gillatly passed away on September 21, 2023, with her family at her bedside.  Charlotte was predeceased by her loving husband, William Gillatly, and their toddler son, Daniel Alexander.  Charlotte will be remembered by her children, Steven (Su), Mark, Carol (Peter), and Dan (Leanna); grandchildren, Aaron, Sara, (Nathan), Laura (Steven), Christopher (Elena), Tom (Lori), Robyn, (Brian), Courtney, Jessie, and (Sam); as well as by her seven great-grandchildren.

Charlotte was a skilled seamstress, baker, and avid gardener. She nurtured her garden, radiating beauty and hope even in the coldest of seasons. When she had quiet time, it was spent reading.

Born in Nova Scotia in the beginning of 1931, she spent her early years in Dartmouth, the youngest of 5 girls. In 1952, she embarked on a lifelong journey of love and commitment when she married William Gillatly. Their Military life took them to France, Germany, Alberta and Ontario, finally settling in British Columbia after William’s retirement. A devoted mother, Charlotte relished her role, always the glue that held the family together and kept everyone well organized. Her warm and nurturing spirit had the extraordinary power to make everyone around her happy. Her unwavering priority was her family’s well-being.

There will be no formal service. Charlotte will be interred in Stratford, Ontario. A Family Celebration of Life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to “Hope for Wildlife” in Nova Scotia, a cause close to Charlotte’s heart.
