We Remember
GUARD, Laura Constance
June 15, 1921 — December 10, 2013
Passed away peacefully on December 10, 2013 in West Kelowna, BC at the age of 92 with her devoted daughter Kathleen by her side.
Predeceased by her husband Herbert (1982) and son Rodney (2013). Laura is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Garth), daughter-in-law Lynn, three granddaughters Connie, Lauren and Robyn two grandsons Kelly and Danny, two great-grandchildren Ashley and Dorian and sister Gillian Hopkins in the UK.
Laura was born in Lewes East Sussex, England June 15th 1921. She was always an independent spirit and the only one of her family to leave the UK. An English WWII Veteran and war bride, Mum was honest, generous, caring and not afraid to speak her mind.
Laura loved Canada, especially her home at Candle Lake; but always had a soft spot in her heart for England. She was a talented cook and enjoyed many hobbies – knitting, sewing, crocheting, needlework and gardening. She was a loving Mum and Grandma and will be greatly missed by all her family.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Village at Smith Creek for their kind and compassionate care.

Kathy, Garth and family,
What a lovely picture of a lovely lady! Your Mom was so lucky to have you and your family, as you were lucky to have her. I know that you have many wonderful memories to cherish. Take Care, Love you, Nancy
I took care of Laura when she lived with us at VSC Assisted Living. She had a great sense of humour, was always pleasant and appreciative. She always spoke fondly of her family and certainly will be missed. It was an honour for me to have known such a delightful lady as your Mum.
While on leave and visiting my folks in Candle Lake I met your wonderful mother several times. It was on one of such visit that she asked if I would take her beautiful Shih Tzu Knicky. Knicky was with me for 14 years. I was always appreciative that your mother entrusted me with her. Perhaps they are together again. God Bless.
Kathy
So sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. My thoughts have been with you. Cherish those memories.
