Daughter of Tom Hansum – my best wishes for the entire family during this trying time. Opa had led a fabulous life with a team of boys that he could be nothing but proud of. I remember reading his memoirs in his office when I was little, wondering if his life story could actually be real, taking care of the bunnies that we later had for dinner and how he always used to let me sit on his lap & cuddle no matter howhow old was. RIP Opa

All our love!!
Dear Lenie and family,
Our hearts are sad that we have to say goodbye, for now, to such a wonderful, encouraging, inspirational man. He was always ready with a smile and his quick wit would always lighten my day! We will forever remember him for his love of the organ – I so enjoyed when he would play during the service! May you feel God’s presence and comfort in a special way during this time! Heaven definitely gained one amazing man! He will be missed.
We will be unable to be at the service on Saturday but will be with you in thought!
With love and prayers,
Christine and Paul Cockings
Hearing from Corry about Bruce and his journey made me think of those long ago years when he and his family first came to Canada! My family & I now wish to express our condolences to you, Leny, and your children and grand-children in the sorrow you must feel but I do so with the assurance that you too will look forward to that great and grand future that Bruce now enjoys and that you will eventually share with the Lord Jesus, the Christ. — Herman and family

Lenie, (Mom)
I send you the tightest of hugs and armfuls of love. I have so much to say and have no idea how. You and Dad were an inspiration to me from the time I met you at 17 years old. I know things fell apart 12 years ago however the love did not change in depth or width. You are very precious and at this time I just want to reach out and tell you how very sorry I am for your loss and to the whole family. Dad touched many lives, mine was enriched beyonds words. I love you, I wish I could be there, but I await my 3rd grandchilds birth (your 4th great-grandchild). May God bless you and keep you. Love, Carol XO

Dear Lenie and Family,
We pray that God would surround you with His comfort and peace as you say ‘farewell’ to your loved one. We treasure memories of Bruce — his positive attitude, his sense of humor, his faith in God despite many trials, his love and his friendship–especially the times of fellowship when he took Ron for coffee or visited him at home. We will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dear Lenie,
After so many years of concern and hope you now realize you have lost your husband. He is safe in the hands of the Lord now and you do not have to worry about him any more! But you have to deal with this new situation: to live without your beloved one. I wish you the presence of the Lord, who is a husband of the widows, as I myself know very well.
So especially for these days of farewell and saying adieu I wish you and your family the comfort of the Lord, and also for the period ahead of you!
I remember very well the pleasant days my Joost and I could spend with you, so many years ago already! Joost’ s children and grandchildren are doing very well and are a real gift from the Lord to me!
With love, Mirjam

My condolences to Mrs. Lenie Hansum and the whole Hansum family. I wish them all much strength for now and the time to come.
Bruce (Bas as he was called in Holland) most appreciated that I wrote down on paper for publication in the 60th year of their emigration to Canada as a lasting memory the story of the life of the Hansum family in Sliedrecht (Holland) and their tragic voyage to Canada (11 – 20 July 1950: Rotterdam (Holland) – Le Havre (France) – Halifax) aboard the steamship ‘Volendam’. He wrote me: “Somehow, even though we are so long in Canada, Sliedrecht with all its memories is so very precious to us and will always be!!” And when I sent him some old articles from the local newspaper in those days in July 1950 about the departure of the Hansum family and the tragic death of his father on board at the Atlantic, leaving him only 19 years old as head of the family, he reacted the same way. I was happy that I could do so and mean something to him in this respect.
It’s such a pity that my parents can’t meet him anymore, now they are visiting Canada from Sliedrecht in only about a few weeks’ time.
Dear Lenie, Michael, and family:
I was sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing. Even though I am now living in Ontario, I keep Castanet on my favourites bar, and read the sad news today. May God be very close to you at this time, and may you rest in the promise of the sure and certain hope of our resurrection in Jesus Christ.
Grace, peace, and hope.
Cyril Chalk
Dear Mrs Hansum and family.
I am so sorry for your loss. Bruce was a very kind, caring man. I loved seeing him and the crew when they came into Arby’s for their morning coffee. Bruce was there for me when my husband got sick, and passed. He inspired, me and gave me hope, made me smile and always had a hug for me!!! I am truly blessed to have know him, and he will always be in my heart.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, and your family at this sad, sad time!!!
Hugs to you all!!
