We Remember
HARLEY, Michael
—
Michael was born in England, the fourth of six children. After graduating from University, he spent two years in national service with British Army. Soon afterwards, he emigrated to New York to live near his older brother. His business career took him to several cities in USA, and then to Toronto.
It was in Toronto that he met Liz, his loving wife of nearly 44 years. Liz and Mike had a wonderful life together, travelling to five continents. Mike was a lifelong choral singer, and through his 20 year involvement with Welsh male choirs made lifelong friends. He was also an athlete, playing rugby in grammar school and University, and later enjoying badminton, racquetball, curling and golf. In 50 years of golfing, he never had a hole in one but he never stopped trying.
No one could be a prouder father and grandfather than Mike. Kym (Darren) Banting of Kelowna and Chris (Kazumi) Harley of Edmonton, and his three grandsons, Owen, Reid & Warner meant everything to him.
Mike had lots of friends and family in Canada, England, Australia, and USA. He is survived by his five siblings and their families and Liz’s sister and her family. Liz and Mike moved to Kelowna five years ago to be closer to family and the decision was a good one.
Although cancer took away his life, he passed away pain free at the Kelowna Hospice with Liz holding his hand.
Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will take place. For those wishing to send a condolence, photos or share memories, may do so by scrolling down this page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”
