We Remember

HOUGH, John “Cameron”
June 22, 1947 — March 22, 2025
Cam Hough passed away on March 22, 2025 at the age of 77, in the Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna, BC.
Born and raised on the vast Canadian prairies in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Cam’s family later moved to Coquitlam, BC. But, he wasn’t destined to stay still for long, Cam joined the Canadian Armed Forces 1969 – 1975 (6 yrs), and was based in Cornwall, Halifax, Stillwater, Comox and Namao. Cam ended his term as Air traffic control at Namao Airforce base, north of Edmonton, Alberta.
During his time serving in the Armed Forces, he met Lena; love blossomed, and they married on December 28, 1973.
When Cam left the Armed Forces in 1975, he enrolled in the University of Alberta in Edmonton and graduated from the faculty of Forestry. During the summer while attending U of A, Cam worked summers as Bird Dog officer in the Alberta Forest Protection Air Tanker program. When he graduated from U of A, he got a job with the department of Indian and Northern Affairs as Resource Management Officer at Fort Smith, NWT. He served there for a few years, then transferred to Inuvik, NWT for several years. Staying up north, he then got a job as an Environmental Land Specialist working out of Whitehorse, YT until he retired in 2002, ending his time in “the land of the midnight sun”.
After retiring Cam and Lena moved to the fresh lakes and warm sun of the Okanagan Valley, they first settled in Vernon, BC, and then later moved to their final home in Kelowna.
An outdoors person, Cam loved fishing more than anything else. Cam, also being a history buff, loved to experience historical sites and museums. Both Cam and Lena loved to travel and experience the world. They were very sociable people, each with a great sense of humour, and they had surrounded themselves with many great neighbours and friends who they always spoke of so fondly.
Cam was a generous, dignified, intelligent man with a strong moral compass that served him well in the service of his country and in his relations with friends and family.
Cam and Lena had no children, so they put their love into pets, they had two of their own, Panya and Digsby, and all the dogs in their neighbourhood used to get treats from Cam.
Just a few weeks ago, Cam was predeceased by his loving wife Lena on February 12, 2025. They will be dearly missed by their family and friends.
Rest in peace. We all love you.

Our heartfelt sympathy to his Family! He was always ready for a good time, willing to help and happy times. He quietly endured so much suffering on his own. He will remain our cherished friend forever! 💔
Our deepest sympathies to the family and all the friends that loved the Hough’s
including us. The joys in the neighborhood will sadly never be recaptured the same way. Much love Loretta and Ed
I was involved in an “unusual occurrence” at Namao while in the RCAF. When Cam and Lena moved-in several houses away, I walked over and introduced myself, and in the chat determined that we were BOTH ex-RCAF, so Cam related an “unusual occurrence” at Namao that happened when he was in the Tower. Instantly I realized that HE had been working the Tower when I had a crew-member fall out of MY Hercules, and we were “BONDED” by our shared past…! God Bless old Friend!
You will be missed,John Friend from the YMCA

Deepest condolences to Cam’s family and friends. We met Cam and Lena in 2003 when we were neighbours in Vernon, BC. During that time and beyond, we enjoyed lots of fun and much laughter, with him and Lena. He was a great story teller, teacher, debater, and solid friend. We will miss him and Lena for the rest of our lives. RIP dear friends. Xoxo
We are down another 2 great people in our lives and they will both be missed but fondly remembered. Always willing to host us at there house and share everything including memories , jokes and some tales which Cam could deliver with the best of them. I first met Cam at our family farm in Northern Alberta where I threw him a football that he caught with ease. Last year my sons and I went Sturgeon fishing in the Fraser River.
