Hudson, Darcie Lee (nee Hrischuk)
January 1, 1970 — March 21, 2012
It is with great sadness that the family of Darcie Hudson announces her passing on March 21, 2012 at the age of 61 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
She is survived by her daughter, Dana Hudson of Kelowna and son, Jerrod Hudson of Vancouver; her mother Helen Hrischuk of Kelowna; sisters Louise Norman of Kelowna and Cheryl (Rick) Quinton of Coquitlam; former spouse Dean Hudson of Grindrod, B.C.; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Alex Hrischuk in 1993.
Darcie was born Feb. 6, 1951, enjoyed a childhood in Kelowna and moved with the family in 1965 to Lakeview Heights (West Kelowna) to a property amongst orchards. She graduated with honours from George Pringle Secondary School in Westbank, attended University of Victoria, and was a primary school teacher for two years in Parksville before returning to Kelowna to teach for 34 years. She taught at Black Mountain Elementary School and many years at Glenmore Elementary School where she retired in June 2011.
Darcie was loved by all who were fortunate to know her. Her quick smile, sense of humour, wit, and loving heart was a joy to family, friends, co-workers and students. She was a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher, a loving devoted mother, sister, daughter, and aunt. She enjoyed children – people of all ages, road trips for sports events, bingo, Las Vegas, music, lively celebrations and conversation as well as quiet pursuits including movies, novels, baking, arts & crafts, sewing, needlepoint, and walks at night with her dog, Ziggy. May she meet departed ones for many more walks in heavenly starlight. We will miss her.
The family wishes to thank all friends and relatives who sat by Darcie’s side during her illness. Many thanks to Darcie’s doctors, nurses and all the staff at Hospice House for helping to comfort her in these final months.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Springfield Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012.

I’m so sorry to hear about Darcie’s passing. I have such fond memories of her when we taught together at Glenmore. I was a new teacher and she shared her resources and knowledge with me, and I still use her Math drill ideas in my Grade 3 class today. We shared our love of Bingo together and we would always catch up whenever we saw each other there. She would brag about what Dana and Jarod were up to and how proud she was of them. It is so unfortunate she did not get the chance to enjoy her retirement to the fullest and she definitely left us too soon. May she rest in peace and I hope the happy memories of her help your hearts heal. Your spunky personality will be missed, Darcie. I feel so fortunate I had the pleasure of having you as a part of my life.
Sincerely,
~Sue Ito
Dear Helen…we are so very sorry for your loss. We live in Ontario now and had no idea your family was going through such a tragic time. Darcie looks so much like you Helen that’s why we noticed her obit.
You may remember we lost a son many years ago so we know what you are feeling…our children should not pass on before us. You are in our prayers and thoughts.
Love..Allie & Larry
To Darcie’s family
I am so sorry for your loss. I am grateful that I was there to spend time with all of you and especially Darcie. One of my fondest memories of Darcie was picking cherries together for 5 weeks for many summers. The beauty of seeing the valley at 6:00 am, the trees red with cherries, laughing, coffee breaks and just being pooped from all the exercise. They were unforgettable summers. My prayers are with all of you. May all your warm memories ease the sorrow you feel. Sincerely, Gene

Hi Dana, we are very sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. I recall her smiling face at Glenmore Elementary and at your house when Marc came to play. I wish you strength and courage to continue your education.
from Marc and Glenn’s mom.
I first met Darcie at the University of Victoria where we were both in the Education program. I got a teaching position here in Kelowna in 1975. Although we never taught together, I would run into her periodically at primary or COTA meetings. We would catch up. The last time I saw her was at her first retirement breakfast she attended back in September. She was her usual bubbly self and was looking forward to her retirement. I was so sorry to hear of her passing when she was at the beginning of a new chapter in her life. I know the many happy memories you have of Darcie will help you through this time.

We are so sorry for your loss. We first met Darcie in 1984 when Shauna was in her Grade 2 class at Black Mt. Elementary and I was a volunteer parent. Shauna had one of her best school years ever while in her beloved Mrs. Hudson’s class. I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering in her class as she was always so upbeat, creative and encouraging to all her students.
Our deepest sympathy.

Words cannot express my sorrow for your loss. I knew Darcie when we were young girls together in elementary school. I remember her smiling face and her zany sense of humour. I know she was a fantastic mother, a loving daughter and a wonderful friend. The world has lost a very gentle soul.
