We Remember

IZZARD, Pauline

September 18, 1937 — June 11, 2023

On June 11, 2023, at the age of 85, Pauline Izzard went to be with the Lord. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ted; children, Dawn (Bill) Burton, Cheryl (Steve) Peters Ball, Glen (Lynn) Izzard; grandchildren Jamie, Taylor (Leah), Spencer (Trishya), Adam (Misha), Casey, Jack (Abby), Lily, Ruby, Carter, and Sam; great-grandchildren Madden, Channing, Hailihn, Scarlet, Swayze; her twin brother Peter (Veronica) Shale; sister-in-law Margaret Shale; and many beloved friends and family.

Pauline’s family emigrated to Canada from Coventry, England in approximately 1953. They settled in Toronto where at the age of 16 Pauline met Ted Izzard. They soon realized they had no interest in anyone else and formed a strong bond.  Her parents and twin brother returned to England due to her older brother in England contracting TB causing her parents to go back to support him.  Being under 18 at that time her parents insisted she return with them. Pauline was determined to return to Ted in Canada so she worked hard to save the return fare. After 6 months she purchased her tickets and this beautiful young lady started on a long journey on her own. Train to Southampton to the transatlantic ship, 6 days across the Atlantic to Montreal, then train to Toronto where they reunited. She resided with friends and after a year or so and they decided on a new life path and adventure so with bought bus tickets to Vancouver with $200 in their pockets and after 5 days on the bus arrived. In 1958 they drove back to Toronto where friends and family joined as they began the 65 years of their marriage.

A homemaker in the truest sense of the word, Pauline’s marriage with Ted was a partnership and within the protection of their relationship, their children flourished, and the family had many adventures together.  She gave countless hours to volunteer work in the community benefiting Girls Guides, Pastoral Care, Okanagan Pregnancy Centre, and Freedom’s Door.

Pauline loved knitting, quilting, needlepoint, and cheering on the Edmonton Oilers, and she will be remembered for her Sunny Boy cookies and her delicious meals.  Pauline had a soft spot for dogs. She had biscuits in her purse for good dogs, and the dogs would always sit nicely to receive their treats.  She was always available to lend an ear for the concerns of others.  She had a kind heart for everyone and their dogs.

Pauline loved her Lord and Saviour, Jesus, with all her heart.  As a faithful and enthusiastic participant in numerous women’s bible studies, home groups, and prayer teams, she was a beautiful prayer warrior, daily interceding before the Lord for her precious family and friends.  Her loving encouragement and support and her Godly council are a legacy she leaves her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and so many who were blessed to know and love her.  Her light shining brightly in this world will be sorely missed by so many.

Death was never a thing to be feared, as this beloved daughter of the Most High knew it was only the beginning of the next chapter, her glorious reunion with The King of Kings and Lord of Lords, her comforter, friend, and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
We look forward to seeing you again on the other side, and until then, we will remember you with love and gratitude for who you were and for all you brought to our lives.

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body”
Philippians 3: 20-21a

Condolences

  • Joel Thompson says:

The world is not quite as bright since Pauline went to be with her Lord. It pains Romayne and me deeply that we have lost her to her Lord..

We have known Pauline for more than 67 years. Ted and Pauline and Romayne and I were together much of the time in Toronto and we became the best of friends. Pauline was so easy to like and so lovely, that it was easy for Ted to fall in love forever. The four of us enjoyed so many good times together and it was our pleasure to arrange their wedding in Toronto. We kept in touch through the years and our families met a number of times most notably when we surprised them on their 50th anniversary cruise.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ted, Dawn, Cheryl and Glen along with the grandchildren. In time, their pain will fade and the emptiness will be filled with the loving memories of Pauline.
