January 19, 1961 — November 26, 2022
The family would like to welcome all Karl’s family, friends, and coworkers to A Celebration of Life to honour Karl on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at Kelowna Golf and Country Club, 1297 Glenmore Dr, Kelowna, BC. This event will be summer casual.
Our much loved Karl Richard Kaesmodel, a resident of Kelowna, BC, passed away at home on November 26, 2022. Karl was 61.
Karl was born on January 19, 1961, in Sudbury, Ontario to Beverly (née Zadow) and Richard “Dick” Kaesmodel. Karl spent his early childhood in Sudbury until 1971, when his family moved across Canada and landed in Kelowna.
Karl embraced the Kelowna lifestyle and enjoyed many sports: tennis, waterskiing, hockey, skiing, and football. After graduating from Kelowna Secondary School in 1979, he was accepted into the Edmonton Police Service and began his career as a Police Constable in 1981, (RTC 61).
In Edmonton at the police college, Karl found his passion for running and fitness, he did numerous marathons and successfully completed the Penticton Ironman in 1991. Karl loved being a policeman and had many different roles within the service: he worked in traffic (he loved writing tickets on his Harley); resource officer in the schools (helped coach cross-country running); and in Parks on his bicycle and cruising the N. Saskatchewan River in the police boat, to name a few. In Edmonton, he met lifelong friends whom he treasured.
Karl married Heidi Hoeschle in 1991 and welcomed his cherished daughter Ainsley in 2001.
Karl retired after 26 years from the Edmonton Police Service in 2006 and moved his family to Kelowna and started a second career with the City of Kelowna in 2007. Here again, he met many wonderful new friends.
Karl enjoyed being back in Kelowna near family and friends. Anyone who knew Karl would know he loved to be active, whether it was skiing down “Paradise”, cycling around the lake, or enjoying a round of golf then finishing up with an awesome IPA!
“Shadows are fallin’ and I’m runnin’ out of breath
Keep me in your heart for a while
If I leave you it doesn’t mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for a while”

Condolences and prayers. Thinking of Heidi and Ainsley and all Family members. Many great memories of KARL …….A Great Policeman and person. Rest In Peace.
I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Heidi, Ainsley and Karl’s extend family. Karl and I were partners in Traffic Section for a couple of years. Karl was a great partner. We spent a lot of time talking about Kelowna, as my wife’s family were from there. We both planned on retiring there. We also ran many miles in the river valley. Although we went in different paths after our time in Traffic Section, we always stayed in touch. After retiring (within 6 months of each other), we ended up in Kelowna. I always enjoying getting together with him whether it was at Big White or in a coffee shop. Even after getting sick, he was always upbeat and just the Karl that I always knew for 30 years. Karl, You will be missed by alot of people.
Condolences to Karl’s family and loved ones. He had a kind heart and warm smile.
I am so sorry to hear about Karl’s passing…. We both enjoyed 26 yr careers with EPS, both retired in 06, and both came to Kelowna…. I’m sorry I lost touch a couple of years ago when I moved away. Enjoyed working in Traffic Section with Karl….. he enjoyed enforcement, especially around school zones…… Karl has left us far too young and too early…… but he will not be forgotten by any of his EPS family!
My deepest sympathy on the loss of a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, and uncle. I will forever remember KK as a great friend and EPS coworker.

My condolences to Karl’s family. I worked in traffic section with Karl. We had many laughs together. May you rest in peace Karl
Karl had a beautiful soul and a kind hearted spirit. I remember when Karl first arrived in elementary school and was blessed to know him for many years. He loved his girls so much and I send you, Heidi and Ainsley, the biggest hugs. There will not be a day go by where he is not missed. My deepest condolences to you both as well as Kurtis and Kathy and your entire family.
Heidi and Ainsley, such a good man was lost. I have so many great memories of Karl and am gutted by his passing. You have my deepest sympathies.
Such a great friend and SO many amazing amazing memories. Bike rides, wee drams, craft beers are just a few.

Karl was a great guy to work with (EPS) and always seemed to be in a good mood and had a perpetual smile on his face. He was a really great police officer. Condolences to Karl’s family and friends. Karl will me greatly missed and never forgotten. Rest in Peace old friend.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Karl was such a good man. We worked together at the City and it was an absolute pleasure to know him and share beers with him. Cheers to you Karl, you’ll be deeply missed!
My deepest condolences for your entire family. I was a member of the Police Service the same time as Karl.
Karl was incredibly passionate about policing and helped encourage me to apply- I’ll forever be grateful for that. What devastating news for his family and extended community. I met Karl through Perry Mah, and the Kaesmodel family was one of his favourites to photograph over the years. Hopefully they are enjoying a good chuckle together now!
With much respect, Jacqui and the Mah boys.
So sorry for your loss. I had no idea Karl was sick. I worked with Karl at EPS. He always had a smile on his face and we had a lot of laughs. He was truly a nice man and gone way too young and will be missed by many.
Rest in peace my friend – I remember ski days at Lake Louise and you hanging out at my dorm in Calgary for weekends that turned into weeks and all of the crazy capers we pulled. Your energy and your humour and your passion for so many things will be deeply missed. My condolences and prayers to Heidi and Ainsley and all of Karl’s family.
I am so sad to hear about Karl`s passing. I have many great memories of skiing at big white, tipping back a few brews and of course the laughs and comraderies we had at the landfill. He will be dearly missed.
I had the pleasure of knowing Karl during our careers at EPS. He was always so upbeat and filled with energy! My heart goes out to his family and friends.
Our deepest condolences to the family, from Corinne and I. Karl was forever upbeat and positive, and a pleasure to spend time with. We shared many laughs while working, carpooling or enjoying a craft beer on the driveway after work.
I extend my warmest sympathies and condolences to Karl’s family for their loss. I was Karl’s field training officer and we we lived in the same apartment, commuted to the south side station together in his green VW beetle and worked together in “Pinky’s” squad…rest in peace my friend…
Gone too soon. Karl was unfailingly positive and fair minded. I’ll always remember Karl for his Hawaiian shirts and for carving big GS turns at Big White. We’ll think of him whenever we ski from the top of the T-Bar down to Gem. Our hearts and love go out to Heidi, Ainsley and family. Gabor and Lyn.
My deepest condolences to the whole family! I will especially miss Karl at the golf course still wearing shorts in October! His smile was infectious and always had a positive attitude – we can all take a page from his playbook! You will be missed Karl!

His Journey’s Just Begun
Ellen Brenneman
Don’t think of him as gone away
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.
Heidi my sincere condolences. If there is anything that Vicki and I can do for you and Ainsley please ask.
While Karl and lost touch after his retirement with the changing of careers, distance between provinces and life drew us apart. We were able to reconnect in June a few months prior to his death. I am very grateful for that opportunity and sincerely wish we would have more time.
I sincerely believe if it is at all possible Karl is active in heaven keeping smiling helping and keeping a watchful eye over Heidi and Ainsley. I hope our paths cross again.
Love Rein & Vicki
