We Remember

KIMMICH, Werner

February 4, 1925 — April 15, 2022

Werner Kimmich went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2022, at the age of 97. Born and raised in Monte Carlo, Argentina, Werner was the second oldest of five children, his parents having emigrated from southern Germany to Argentina in 1922.  At age six, he lost his father, leaving his mother to raise five young children alone on the farm. In 1950, he married Hildegard Fichtenberg and in 1964 they immigrated to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada; they travelled 28 days by way of a cargo freighter and Greyhound bus with their five young children. A sixth child was born two years later. In 1967, they relocated to the beautiful town of Kelowna, BC having been offered a job with Jabs Construction, where Dad worked most of his career.

Dad was a skilled carpenter, specializing in crafting furniture, windows, and doors, and had a keen eye for quality work in all things!  He also loved his garden, whether it was propagating roses, grafting fruit trees, or planting flowers and vegetables. He had many varieties of grapes and plums, delicious peaches, raspberries, and many vegetables, all generously shared and carefully packaged for family and friends.

Dad loved reading and learning about European history along with many other topics. A highlight for him was a trip to Germany to visit his only sister and the places of his ancestry. Dad and Mom also occasionally travelled to Argentina to visit their many brothers and sisters.

Dad was a kind and gentle man, faithfully serving the Lord, and providing for his family – who were his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Hildegard; 6 children: Gertrude (Bill), Olga (Tadeus), Helmuth (Connie), Willfried (Lynette), Regina (Mark), and Karoline (Terry); 7 grandchildren: David (Shannon), Rhonda, Denise (Amr), Michael (Emma), Lauren, Vanessa, and Bradley (Emily); 8 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Walter.

Our family wishes to thank all the staff at Kelowna Hospice House for the wonderful care given to our father.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association.

Condolences

  • Susan Habermehl says:

Don, Susan Habermehl and boys send our deepest sympathy to the Kimmich Family. May the Peace of God fill your hearts and minds. May the many fond memories of your Father and Grandfather bring you peace and joy.

  • Doug Engel says:

I am so sorry to hear about Werner. My dad knew him a lot better than me, and liked him a lot. We worked together with him a bit and although he was a quiet man, he still liked to laugh. I remember visiting with you in Moose Jaw, at your house, our house or church.
I was looking forward to seeing you all, and visiting a bit at the funeral, but Marlene tested positive yesterday, and we have to isolate.
We are sorry for your loss, and will include you in our prayers!
    Doug
