We Remember

LOGIE, David Christopher

1937 – 2023

We are saddened to announce that David passed away on June 29, 2023. Thankfully, his passage was a peaceful one.  His wife, Barbara, was at his side.

David is lovingly remembered by Barbara, their two sons, Stuart (Shauna) and Michael (Wendy) and two granddaughters, Ashia and Jessica, his sister-in-law Muriel Logie and family, members of the Tupman family and many friends in Canada and the United States. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Jim and Ethelwyn Logie, and his brother, John.

David was born in Kelowna on October 16, 1937.  He went to school here and graduated from Kelowna High School where his father was principal. David then attended UBC and attained his Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1960.

David began his career with the Hudson’s Bay Company. During a span of 25 years with the Bay, he was posted to various cities including Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Kelowna, and Surrey.  For most of his time with the Bay, he held senior management positions, including as store manager in a number of locations and as regional manager. Upon retiring from the Bay, David purchased a Home Hardware franchise in Tsawwassen.  He owned and operated that store for 11 years.

In 1996, David and Barbara retired to their beautiful home on Wood Lake in Oyama where the family would gather each August to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries.  Their home was on a site originally discovered by David’s father-in-law, Harry Tupman. Gradually over the years David lovingly improved and extended Harry’s original cabin. He found joy in tending to his rose garden and maintaining the stunning grounds.

David and Barbara spent many wonderful winters in Palm Desert and also enjoyed travelling to various countries in Europe and Hawaii and visiting family and friends in Santa Barbara and Mexico. Some of David’s favorite times were spent at the family cabin on Eagan Lake in the Cariboo where he indulged his passion of working on home improvement projects.

David enjoyed various sports including skiing, tennis, and golf in his retirement years.  He was also a voracious reader and enjoyed engaging in lively political discussions.

He deeply valued the friendship of his golfing buddies, the ‘Tuesday’ coffee group, and his many friends in the community.

David was a person of principle and always ready to help those in need.  He had a strong work ethic, was interested in the welfare of others, and liked to hear their stories.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Brian Martin, Dr. Pieter Botha, and the healthcare professionals at Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna Cancer Centre, and Hospice House for their care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club, 1297 Glenmore Drive, Kelowna, BC, on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, and in honour of David, please consider sending a donation to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.

David was a very special person and will be dearly missed.

  • Tanya says:

I was so sad to hear of Dave’s passing. He was my favourite friend of my father’s and always made me smile and laugh. We had many great conversations over the years and he always took an interest in our lives and made us feel so welcome in his home. We spent some time with him and Barbara in Palm Springs when they opened up their place to us and made us feel like family. Dave was such a warm and funny person and some of my best memories are sitting on the deck with him overlooking the lake or watching him putter around the beautiful home he took such pride in improving. I feel so lucky to have known him and am sad that he is gone.
