We Remember
MACKAY, Malcolm Rodger
July 27, 1951 — March 13, 2023
With sadness, I announce Malcolm Rodger MacKay, affectionately known as Mac, passed away on March 13, 2023, in Kelowna, BC.
Born on July 27, 1951, Mac was raised (along with his two brothers, Jack and Larry, and sister Shirley) in Port Moody, BC by his parents, John and Alice MacKay.
Mac loved the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed golf and fly-fishing. On a Sunday, you could find him wearing the San Francisco 49’ers jersey and cheering for them, his favourite team. He loved spending time with friends and family and fully enjoyed a good party with great classic rock.
Mac is survived by his daughter, Danielle (Sonny) Nielsen; his two grandchildren, Brianna Rooney and Branden Nielsen; as well as by his brothers Jack (Debbie) McKay and Larry MacKay; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother, John and Alice MacKay; as well as his sister, Shirley Tweedie.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Port Moody, BC later in the Spring, with the date to be determined.

My deepest condolences to Macs family as I know how important he was to all of you. Mac was a good guy and although we didn’t make it for the long haul as a couple we certainly remained friends for the last 43 years. You will always hold a special place in my heart Mac, you are resting easy now with Shirley. See you on the other side my friend and please give my family a big hug from me. Kimmie xoxo o
am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Mac was always a friend you could rely on and had wit and passion. I grow up with him and have manages to keep in touch over these many years. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
My sincere condolences to Danielle and the rest of the MacKay clan. Mac was really one of the good guys. I first met Mac in the early ’70s when I was hanging out with my best buddy Larry, Mac’s brother. You were always so friendly and funny, and the ladies loved you. Anytime I ever saw you over the past 50 years in the pubs or wherever, it was like seeing a long-lost old friend. I will miss morning breckys at the Jolly Coachman, your insightful comments on FB, and the cool songs you used to post. You will forever be remembered by me and everyone you called friend. Give Shirley a hug and a kiss for me. XO – Bob B
