We Remember
MANZUIK, Joan
October 16, 1925 — September 22, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Manzuik announces her passing on September 22, 2024. At the age of 98 years young, she departed with her family by her side.
Joan is survived by her children, Steve, Maureen, Ken (Kerry), Trevor (Pat), and Denise; her 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and all those whose lives she touched. She now goes to join her husband, John Manzuik, who passed before her on August 23, 2023.
Born in Islington, UK, Joan met the love of her life, a young Canadian soldier named John, in Trafalgar Square in 1944. After marrying him, she bravely left her homeland as a war bride and moved to Canada, where they settled in Flin Flon, Manitoba, to start a new life. Together, they raised five children and built a life filled with love and togetherness.
In 1970, Joan and John semi-retired to Lake Country, BC, where they owned and operated Hillside Grocery for many years. They became “snowbirds” and enjoyed travelling to and staying in Arizona together, and they loved exploring Europe and Mexico. In her downtime, Joan found joy in gardening, canning, knitting, reading, and challenging herself with word searches to keep her mind sharp. In her later years, she loved playing bingo and visiting with residents at the Manor.
Joan’s family was the heart of her world, and she was fortunate to have their company almost every day. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
A private family service was held in honour of Joan. Memorial donations may be sent to the charity of your choice.
