We Remember
MARCANIO, Franco
February 25, 1937 — April 5, 2023
Franco Marcanio went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2023, surrounded by family, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Romilde; daughters Elena Tostenson (Craig) and Catia Evans (Paul); grandchildren Brenden Tostenson (Sarah), Elisa Layher (Scott), and Steven Tostenson (Alexandra); great-grandchildren Easton, Dawson, Emilia, and Jackson; sister Italia; and numerous family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Vittoriano and Elena; and sisters Albina and Marianina.
Franco was born in Celano, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1957 where he worked as a section foreman for the CN Railway. Franco returned to Italy in 1960 where he met and married the love of his life, Romilde. Frank and Romi moved to Kelowna and settled and raised their family in the Glenmore Valley where they have lived together for the last 63 years.
Well known to be hardworking and innovative, Franco was a loyal friend who was generous with his time. He was a problem solver, and no job was ever too difficult. He was welcoming and opened his heart and home to many people. A passionate, active and strong-willed man, he loved his family, and they always came first.
Franco gave back to the Okanagan community in many ways. A parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church since 1960, he was also a founding and active member of the Kelowna Canadian-Italian Club (est. 1966). He worked as cellar supervisor at Calona Wines for 31 years. Franco had Parkinson’s Disease for over 20 years but didn’t let the disease stop him from living his life to the fullest.
Special thanks to the Short Stay Unit staff at Cottonwoods, Lia Sambrielaz, and Dr. Thomson for their excellent care.

Most of my young life and present involved Frank and Romi. We were relatives and Frank was close to our family. Frank was an important member of the Italian community and will always be remembered by all of us that we’re lucky enough to know him. He was an example to all of us about never quitting on yourself and to do the very best you can at all time.
God bless you uncle Frank

To Romilda, Caudia, and Ellina.:
Very sad to learn of Frank’s passing. He was an amazing man with love of his family, church and faith and most importantly love and caring of his family. With a strong work ethic Frank was an important part of his community. Frank will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. I remember how Donna cared for him very much and she would have echoed my message.
I hope over time that the entire family will be comforted with his legacy.
Much Love, Guy.
