We Remember
MARKIN, Nicholas Walter
April 26, 1934 — September 16, 2017
Nicholas Walter Markin passed peacefully in his sleep at home on September 16, 2017 at the age of 83. He spent 58 years married to the love of his life, Helen, née Trauter. Nick was a highly respected member of Local 140 Welders and Pipeliners. He loved his job so much that he refused to retire until his cancer made him unable to work in June. Nick was an avid fisherman, gardener, father and grandpa. He found joy in everything and brought joy to everyone around him. Nick firmly believed that there was no point to life without laughter and lived that way everyday. He is survived by his wife Helen; his daughters Corey Quigley, Nikki Cadden and Kathy Markin; his grandchildren Jessie, Leila, Kiah, Dani, Julia and Jaxon; his siblings George and Faye; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kelowna Cancer Clinic.

So sorry to hear that Nick is gone. My condolences to the family.
Sincerely,
Lorne MacDougall
After knowing Nick for 45+ years it is hard to believe he’s gone. All welders who worked pipeline back in the day were both fast and good quality. It was a very fun and competitive time. Nickie loved Pipeline welding right to the end. Many co-workers will immediately think of all the jobs we worked together right across Canada.
My sympathy to the family from Jeff McKinley
Helen – my favorite aunt – to you and the family my sincere condolences. Nichka (as my dad would call him) was a wonderful man.
