We Remember
MCFADDEN, Marjorie Ethel
—
Mom passed away New Year’s Day, January 1, 2018. She was born in Creston, July 6, 1927, and lived on a large acreage with her parents Ethel and Walter Jackson and her two older brothers Roy and John. From an early age Mom spent many happy hours riding her horse Gypsy around the countryside and down to Twin Bays, on Kootenay Lake, in the summers. Mom was an accomplished tennis player, swimmer, skier and outdoor enthusiast. In her early years, Mom attended Camosun College in Victoria to obtain her teaching certificate and returned to Creston to teach in the primary grades. Our Dad, Ray McFadden, was just beginning his teaching career in Creston, and it was here that Mom and Dad met. They married on June 29, 1951.Together forever. They were each other’s best friends and their love was evident to anyone they met along the way.
Mom was very active in the tennis community winning numerous trophies in competitions including club champion at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club. They enjoyed creek fishing and hiking around Kootenay Lake often camping out in a tent with only the barest of necessities. Parties at home and at our lake cabin always included music and laughter with the many friends and family that surrounded them.
Mom is predeceased by her husband Ray and survived by their four children, Frank (Lindsay), Kathleen (Eric) Heffernan, David (Andrea), Bruce (Letitia). Mom and Dad have ten-grandchildren Stuart (Jennifer) and Cameron (Courtney) McFadden, Shaun (Megan) and David Heffernan, Rory (Alyssa) and Liam McFadden and Keely (Fabien) Bruel, Rebecca, Duncan and William. They also have five great-grandchildren, Cole, Hudson and Cohen, and their sisters Brielle and Everleigh.
Mom and Dad and family enjoyed attending many happy celebrations of their grandchildren in recent years. We would like to thank the kindness of the people who have enriched the lives of our family in Yuma, Arizona, Kelowna and Armstrong Bay in Creston and other places beyond. You have all been invaluable in helping weave the beautiful quilt that was our Moms’ life.
We would like to thank Dr. Mackle, the care aides and staff at both Chatsworth and Orchard Manor- and her companion and friend Victoria from We Care, who all cared for Mom during the final years of her life.
This is a favourite saying of Mom’s and reflects her timeless wisdom and love.
‘ Buy two loaves of bread.
Sell one. And with the dole,
Buy hyacinths for the soul.’
Our family will take Mom and Dad to their beloved Kootenay Lake this summer, where they will be laid to rest beside Walter and Ethel Jackson in Lister, Canyon B.C.

I knew both Ray and Margorie through the dental office I worked at for over 7 years and I always looked forward to seeing both of them. They always had a story for me to share from Margories summer dips in the Kootnay lake to Ray driving the trailer to Arizona.
The one thing that always came up was there family and how proud they were of all of them. I am so glad I had a chance to meet them.
May you rest in piece with Ray by your side.

We send our sincerest condolences to the entire McFadden family. Thank you for the wonderful memories of times shared through tennis, skiing, and endless good times with great friends. Chris and Diana Jaegli
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We enjoyed your parents over the years in Yuma AZ.
Our thoughts are with your family at this time. Marg and Ray were such a huge part of the Kootenay Lake experience. I will forever have fond memories of the parties at their cabin for happy hour, and dancing my way home after having one of your Dad’s margaritas. Whenever I think of them, its always them together, with their big dog and its nice to think they are again.
Much love, Cathi, Ross and Brock
My condolences to you on the loss of your mother, grandmother and friend. I had the pleasure of knowing both your mom and dad, having been a student at Rutland Secondary and eventually living next to the KGCC. It was my honour to follow in your father’s footsteps as the principal of RSS, but I also knew your mom as a fun and super energetic person. I am sure you will remember them both proudly and fondly.
Our heart felt condolences to the McFadden family on the loss of your Mom. We know she was dearly loved, a true matriarch of your family and will be dearly missed.
Love to all
Marty & Maureen
Our sincerest condolences to the entire McFadden family. We have always loved serving the family for your special dinners at Destiny Bay.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all,
Ron & Lynn
Our thoughts are with your entire family on the loss of Marj. Marj along with Ray opened their hearts to many people. They formed countless strong friendships cemented by the guitar around the campfire, piano and songs. We were fortunate to have shared many wonderful times with Marj and Ray. These included skiing at Big White, fishing on Kootenay Lake and Sanka creek. playing tennis and bridge. Marj will be missed. May all of the wonderful memories bring you a sense of peace.

There were few people as kind and caring as your mom. Know that we are thinking about you, and are remembering all the wonderful times we had at Armstrong Bay on the beach and around the campfire.
