We Remember
MORI, Mari
January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970
Mari Mori (née Nishi) passed away peacefully at age 91 on April 1, 2020. She was born in Kelowna, BC on June 3, 1928 and is survived by her husband of 63 years, Chic Mori. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law Min and Sat, sister-in-law Yem, and friends. Mari was predeceased by her parents Kichiya and Yuki; her sisters Aya (Frank) Tabuchi, Fusa, and Setsuko; and brother Carl (Emiko).
She attended Mission Creek and Kelowna high schools. In 1949, she became a receptionist at CKOV radio station. Leaving CKOV after many years, Mari worked at Kelowna Travel Service, the first travel agency in the valley. From Kelowna Travel, she moved on to several other agencies such as Light’s Travel, Four Seasons Travel, and Windward Travel. She travelled to many parts of the world conducting bus tours and taking groups of clients to places such as Hawaii until the 1990s when she retired. Together she and Chic enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, weekends with family, and travelling with friends.
In 2015, Mari and Chic moved to the Highlands Retirement Residence and later she moved to her most recent residence at Brandt’s Creek Mews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Rachel Carver, the care staff of the Cherry floor at Brandt’s Creek Mews, especially nurse Alexis, and the many friends that visited Mari over the years.
Due to the current restrictions we are under as a result of the COVID-19 virus, a memorial service will be set at a later date, when it is more appropriate to gather. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences.”

We were saddened to learn of Mari’s passing. A beautiful, outgoing and gentle soul, who always had a young spirit about her, and an infectious smile that would light up the room and warmly greet whomever she met. Always smiling and laughing.
After the tears have dried and the good byes have been said, all we have to hold onto are the happy memories that we’ve shared with our loved ones. This is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds, and she will continue to live on through us.
Our sincere condolences to all of you, and our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
