NIKIFORUK, Anne “Annie” – Updated Guest Registration & Service Info

October 18, 1933 — November 26, 2022

A Memorial Reception will be held on SATURDAY, JULY 15, 2023, at 2:00 PM, in the Family Centre, at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.  If you wish to attend, Please Click Here to Register.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother (aka Nanny, Grandma, and Auntie) Anne “Annie” Nikiforuk, at age 89, on November 26, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents who migrated from Croatia; her husband of 56 years, John, in 2011; and five older brothers and sisters. She is survived by her loving children Doug (Jan), Tracy (John) and Alan (Melanie). She was very proud of her 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss their Auntie Anne.

Mom was born in Princeton, BC on October 18, 1933, and in her younger years was active and loved to play sports. She loved to talk about the simple life they had back then, and her wonderful childhood years. She met John in Princeton, and they married in November 1954. They eventually settled in North Vancouver, BC, and there they raised their 3 children. They later moved to Kelowna, BC in the sunny Okanagan in 2000, to live out their retirement years.

Mom was always proud of the fact that she was the first woman in BC to bowl a perfect (450) game in December 1957 (while pregnant with Tracy!). Mom loved going to the Casino and was often lucky. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed travel, golf, her word-search books, her crossword, gardening, movies, and music. Mom and Dad were blessed to travel to many different places throughout the years. They enjoyed several trips abroad and enjoyed their cruises. Tracy and Mom shared many good times together over the years on trips to California, Hawaii, Palm Springs, Arizona, and Las Vegas.

Our mom was a very strong and spirited woman. She was devoted to her family. She was generous to a fault, you rarely left her house empty-handed. She loved to cook and bake for her family; Mom had a reputation throughout the family for her wonderful spaghetti and rib dinners. Whether it was baking or leftovers, or who knows what, you went out the door carrying a bag of something.

We have so many happy memories of Mom and all of her family when we all would gather for family reunions. Those were wonderful times, and there were many.

The loss of Mom has left a huge void in our lives, but we take comfort in knowing she is surrounded by her Angels that she had such faith in, and is now reunited with her loving husband John, and all her family and friends that left before her. There must be one big party going on in Heaven right now.

Special thanks to Dr.’s Recsky and Dr. Hershorn at Kelowna General Hospital.

Condolences

  • Ingrid Shepheard says:

Your Mom gave the best hugs, and always with a twinkle in her eye. She always made me feel warm and welcome in her her home over the years – and I was lucky to have enjoyed that famous spaghetti & ribs with your family on several occasions! Annie had a great sense of humour and a beautiful smile. She was blessed to have had such a wonderful, loving family to share her life with. I will miss her dearly. Sending you all my love and wishing you comfort during this difficult time. She is your angel now … and is with you whenever you think of her xoxo

  • Betty Stanbrook says:

  • Marilyn Collier says:

Aunt Anne was the youngest of my mother’s five siblings. She was good natured and loved by her family. She was always there when you needed her and will be missed by all who knew her.
