We Remember

OAKLAND, Robert Dustin “Bobby”
December 20, 1986 — January 30, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our son, brother, grandson, and cousin, Robert “Bobby” Oakland, who left us at the young age of 38.
Bobby entered this world as a little angel — gentle, calm, and content. But when he was just six months old, I knew in my heart that he wouldn’t be mine for long. In some way, I understood that I would lose him far too soon, though I didn’t know how or when.
Bobby never fit into any mould. He was active, energetic, and made friends easily. He loved to bike, climb, swim, and do all the things that little boys do. He was an avid soccer player in his youth, and his playful spirit earned him the nickname “Butt Crack Bobby” for his refusal to tie his shorts properly.
Bobby loved his family deeply, and he had a special place in his heart for animals. He rescued a tiny pup, Buddy, at just five weeks old while camping, and the two shared an inseparable bond. Bobby’s sense of humour was contagious, and he loved to laugh. One Easter, when we were away, Bobby accidentally caused some damage at home. We returned to find that the “Easter Bunny” had left money hidden around the house to help cover the costs of the repairs—a gesture that was so very him.
Bobby was predeceased by his grandfather Dennis Oakland; his “Papa” Merve; his uncle Drew; his beloved pups, Tasche, Buddy; and his kittens Queen and Poly.
He is survived by his mother, Cheri (Trevor) Shusheski; his big brother, Will “Billy” Oakland; his “KoKo” Helen; grandmother Darlene Granger; his aunties, Robbin Doroshuk, Debbi Tearoe, Sherri (Bob) Anderson, and Christine Oakland; and his cousin Greg (Allison) Oakland; along with many more family members and friends who loved him, including his fur babies, Miss Molly and Abigail.
At Bobby’s request, there will be a private cremation followed by a Memorial Service for those close to him. His ashes will be scattered at his favourite childhood camping spot, where he first met and rescued Buddy. May they be together forever, watching over those of us left behind.
In honour of Bobby, we ask that when you see someone struggling, instead of walking away, offer a simple gesture of kindness—a warm coffee, a comforting bowl of soup or chili, or an easy-to-chew sandwich.
