We Remember

OLIVER, Barry George

June 15, 1953 — January 4, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Barry George Oliver, who passed away peacefully, with family by his side on January 4, 2025, at the age of 71.

Left to hold him dear to their hearts are his wife of 51 years, Linda; son Ryan (Lisa); grandchildren Adeleine, Sam, and Briana; sister Thelma Jamieson; stepsister, Sandra (Al) Gleason; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Barry now goes to join those who passed before him, including his son Devin (d. November 2020); grandson Brooks (d. June 2007); sister Wilma Enyedy; and parents, George and Mary.

Born on June 15, 1953, in Kelowna, BC, Barry lived a life of determination and love. Raised in Kelowna with his siblings, he developed a passion for sports, playing competitive baseball as a youth. Barry’s love for the game extended into coaching baseball, where he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with young athletes. Barry was involved in minor baseball for over a decade. With Barry coaching the boys and Linda scorekeeping, the Oliver family spent many hours at the ballpark. Barry was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers.

Barry worked for the phone company for many years, as it evolved from OK Tel to BC Tel and later Telus. Retirement came early after an accident changed his life, leaving him a quadriplegic. Despite this, and later suffering a stroke that blinded him in one eye, Barry never gave up. His perseverance and strength were a testament to his character. Above all, Barry loved his family. He found happiness in spending time with his family and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.

Barry’s dedication, resilience, and love for those close to him will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2025. Details to be announced.
