We Remember
REDEKOPP, Julie
—
On February 21, 2023, Julie Redekopp went to be with the Lord.
In Julie’s words, “My Story”: I was born in Ft. William, ON (Thunder Bay) in 1931 to white Russian parents. My first 6 years were lived in an isolated CNR railroad station, where Dad worked on the track. Then he moved to Alonwater where I started school x3 years with 1st nations children and learned English and Ojibway (Anishinaabemowin). When the school closed, I was sent to Sioux Lookout, ON, boarding in various homes until grade 10, when I was sent back to Ft. William where I finished his school, again boarding and living with strangers. I had a stuttering problem most of my life, which I was able to control. Until this time, I had no bible and no interest in God or Church.
After high school, I went to London, ON and graduated as an R.N. from Western University with Bachelor of Nursing. I gave my life to Christ after attending Youth for Christ and being mentored by a missionary nurse weekly. I worked 6 months in the Terrace, BC outpost hospital until Father died. I returned to Sioux Lookout to live with Mother, and I worked in a federal hospital for indigenous people and practised my Ojibway. It was in this town, where I matured as a Christian in a strong, loving church. After 3 years, I moved to Winnipeg, MB, and worked there for 30 years. During my time in Winnipeg, I had spinal surgery and a quad bypass. I also, graduated from WPG Bible College with a BRE.
In 1979, I married Jake Redekopp; we loved to travel. After we retired, we decided to give our lives to the Lord in Ministry. I worked with Youth for Christ and taught children in 2 public schools with Child Evang. which was permitted by the Manitoba Minister of Education (with some restrictions). I also volunteered at the hospital for 15 years in Spiritual Care. When Jake started short-term missions, I came with him to Russia, Ukraine, Haiti, and Guatemala.
Jake and I came to Kelowna, BC in 2003, where we attended Evangel Church. We volunteered with Church Serve for a few years and Care & Share. I also volunteered at the hospital for 13 years, and at Hospice House for 4 years until my health deteriorated. During all those years ministering with patients, the Lord walked with me, guiding me with wisdom, love, and compassion. My favourite verse is Phil 4:13 and Prov 3:5
Julie will be missed by her niece, Karen Kennedy and her daughters; her nephews Richard and Peter Maze; sister-in-laws, Nancy, Elsie, Nettie and Claire; brothers-in-law, John, Ed, and Jake; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care & Share Evangel Church.
