We Remember

SCHISLER, Olga
January 17, 1929 — December 15, 2020
Our beloved mother and granny passed away peacefully on December 15, 2020.
She was predeceased by Stan in 2016. Olga is survived by three daughters: Wendy Kim, Georgie (Marc) Pezzin, Sandy (Shawn) O’Reilly; son Ken (Carle) Schisler; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers Jerry and Wally Faryna; and sister Anne Faryna. Predeceased by her parents William and Sophie; her brothers Mike and John; and sister Mary.
Olga Farina was born in Moosewa, Alberta on January 17, 1929, where she spent her first 16 years, growing up on a farm. The family then pulled up stakes, loaded everything they could in their farm truck, and moved off to Fort Langley to try dairy farming. They lived there for several years before selling the farm and moving to Princeton, where they bought and ran the Tulameen Hotel. It was while working at the Princeton Brewery that Olga met Stan Schisler. He nicknamed her ‘Shorty’ and the name stuck. They were married in 1949 and raised their four children in Princeton, and then Kelowna after moving there in 1965.
‘Shorty’ was a great baker, homemaker, and cook. She made the best pies, cinnamon buns, bread, and Sunday night family dinners. She delighted in feeding pretty well anyone who had the privilege of visiting her home and she was beloved by all who knew her. She nurtured a vegetable garden every year and loved to grow flowers. Olga also worked part-time at Woolworths for 30 years.
During retirement, Stan and Shorty loved to go camping and fishing. They took grandchildren with them as often as possible and introduced them all to the joys of the outdoors. Family, especially the grandchildren, were a big part of their lives, and they would travel around BC and Alberta to watch hockey, soccer, figure skating, and ringette games. They also spent several winters in Arizona and California, joining friends and family at retirement communities.
After leaving the home they proudly built on Mount Royal Drive they resided at Sandalwood Retirement Resort, The Chatsworth, and Sutherland Hills Rest Home. Olga spent her last two years at Brandt’s Creek Mews well cared for by her nurses, care aides, and the rest of the wonderful staff there.

I will miss you, Olga. I could not ask for a better sister-in-law. You always made everyone feel so welcome, baked the best huckleberry pies and we had lots of laughs over the years playing crib.
Stan must be happy to be reunited with his ” Shorty” again
Sandy, Georgie and entire Schisler family, my heart goes out to you. Sandy, I remember us walking over to Wooolworths on our lunch break and stopping to say Hi to your Mom. She was always so happy to see you and it was obvious she was a great Mom. Take comfort in your memories.
